Research Administrator

The University of Maryland Baltimore - School of Medicine - Department of Pharmacology and Physiology is currently seeking a Research Administrator. This position will be responsible for the full lifecycle of grant and contract research administration. The ideal candidate will have pre- and post-award experience.

Primary Duties:

Pre-Award Duties

  • Assist faculty and staff with expert direction on pre-award proposal applications and/or submissions, including IPAs.
  • Provide subject matter guidance for all federal, non-federal sponsored research, industry sponsored research and private foundation sponsored research.
  • Assure department grants and contracts comply with all federal and state legal requirements, other sponsor requirements to include industry and private foundation, and UMB policies prior to review by the UMB Sponsored Project Administration office (SPA).
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policy statements and annual project plans. Provide direction for operational aspects of contracts and grants management for business operation matters.
  • Review and finalize Just in Time (JIT) documents for pending applications.
  • Manage the preparation and review of new grant and contract budgets and applications.
  • Validate proposal error or warnings within UMB System to System proposal submission, including federally provided ASSIST submission system, if necessary.
  • Have a working knowledge of industry and other sponsored funding submission processes based on funding opportunity announcements.
  • Have a working knowledge of NDA, CDA's and other research agreements to guide faculty whilst providing communication between sponsor and UMB.
  • Prepare, review, interpret, communicate, and ensure sponsor guidelines compliance, and eligibility information is defined within proposals. Interact directly with sponsor representatives to clarify ambiguous terms and conditions, and to request supplemental funding, no cost extensions, and other administrative requests.

Post-Award Duties

  • Assist with related post-award processes, including award setup, review, account setup verification, and ensuring that staff is set up appropriately.
  • Manage setting up sub-awards, no cost extensions, unfunded agreements and act as liaison between the department and SPA.
  • Maintain ongoing updates and communications related to current grants and contracts. Also, provide relevant updates and reports to departmental leadership, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and provides management with ad hoc reports.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Six (6) years progressively building research administrative background with at least four (5) years in full life-cycle research administration.
  • Preferred Experience: Demonstrated experience in pre-award proposals and administration.
  • Supervisory Experience: One (1) year of work coordination or training of others preferred.
  • Preferred Certification/Licensure: Certified Research Administrator.
  • Other: Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Commission. Completion of a 12 credit Research Administration graduate certificate program can be considered as the equivalent of one (1) year of relevant research administration work experience. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

HIRING RANGE: $101,000 - $120,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)
