Research and Education Librarian
Job Description
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL) seeks to hire a Research and Education Librarian. The librarian in this position is a member of a collaborative team dedicated to advancing the library's research support and educational goals. The HSHSL serves UMB's schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work, and graduate studies. The faculty librarian in this position will serve as liaison to the University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies. Programs within the school include the MS in Physician Assistant (PA), MS in Health Sciences, and PhD in Health Professions Education.
The successful candidate will assist students, faculty, and staff in the areas of expert literature searching, knowledge synthesis, evidence-based practice, information literacy, and scholarly communication. They work with the seven-member Research and Education Services (RES) department and colleagues library-wide to develop and deliver innovative programs and services, engage with the University community, and participate in professional and scholarly activities. They also serve as liaison between the UMB Historical Collections and the School of Graduate Studies.

Responsibilities:
- Cultivates and sustains connections between the School of Graduate Studies and the HSHSL by building collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff and advocating for their research and education needs.
- Partners with members of the Research and Education Services department to develop innovative programs and services.
- Delivers engaging instruction and consultations to students, emphasizing searching skills, finding quality evidence, critical appraisal of resources, and information management.
- Consults and collaborates with faculty and staff in support of research and scholarly publishing.
- Provides expert searching for systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and other research projects.
- Develops workshops and video tutorials on searching, publishing, information management, and other topics of interest to the UMB Community.
- Performs historical research related to the School of Graduate Studies on a limited basis.
- Consults with the Historical Collections Librarian on the preservation of historical materials related to the School of Graduate Studies (10% effort).
- Actively participates on committees within the School of Graduate Studies, the HSHSL, the University, and within professional organizations.
- Develops inclusive and equitable working relationships with HSHSL colleagues and with UMB students, faculty, and staff.
- Engages in professional development, service, and research activities to enhance professional expertise and maintain or advance appointment rank.
Reporting/Work Schedule:
The position reports to the Head of Research and Education Services. UMB and HSHSL support flexible work environments and the development of a vibrant university campus community. Onsite engagement is required by leadership. This position allows for a hybrid telework arrangement.
Status:
This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. It is funded by the School of Graduate Studies and is not eligible for permanent status. The incumbent will be eligible for promotion and is expected to participate fully as a member of the library's faculty.

Salary:
$62,500 commensurate with experience.

Generous benefits include choice of retirement, medical, and dental plans; 22 days of annual leave; 15 days of sick leave; 3 personal days and 14 holidays. Regular employees, as well as their spouses and dependent children, may receive tuition remission for most programs at many campuses of the University System of Maryland.

Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program.
- Excellent collaboration skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong service orientation and skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an academic, research, or health sciences library supportive of graduate health professions education.
- Experience conducting literature searches in a variety of databases.
- Experience providing online and in-person instruction.
- General knowledge and interest in archives or special/historical collections.
- Evidence of professional involvement, service, and/or scholarly activity.
