Job Summary

TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE!

The department of Biosystems Engineering at Auburn University is seeking candidates for one or multiple Research Assistant positions. These positions are funded from external sources, and continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds. The selected individuals will provide professional and technical assistance with research programs focused on the study of agricultural wastewater treatment and bioreactor development.

These are two-year limited term appointments. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of funds.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist principal investigator
  • Assists in the development of project plans and laboratory protocols
  • Perform and supervise wastewater bioreactor research activities
  • Summarize data from research and stakeholder engagements
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to support publication
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by supervisor with regards to sustainable wastewater engineering practices

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Level I: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, or Agriculture; no experience required.

Level II: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, or Agriculture and 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.

Level III: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, or Agriculture and 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.

Substitutions allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Valid driver's license

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Candidates should have documented experience and/or the ability to conduct job duties in environmental engineering and sustainable agriculture.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, demonstrated technical excellence and ability to work both independently and in a team environment are necessary.

Minimum Technology Skills

Basic computer skills

Basic skills with electronic instrumentation in the laboratory

Minimum License and Certifications

Valid driver's license required.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include the additional technical experience:

  • Research experience and knowledge in bioreactor development & design
  • Experimental design for bioreactor performance analyses
  • Computational modeling of flow systems and bioreactors
  • Biological wastewater engineering; microbial culturing procedures
  • Various analytical instruments such as GC/MS, HPLC, TOC/TN, Spectrophotometry
  • Knowledge/experience with chemical and biochemical laboratory procedures

Salary Range: $34,610 - $60,300
