"Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow - Institute for Research on the African Diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean"

The Graduate Center (GC) is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at the City University of New York (CUNY). As part of the Provost’s Diversity Initiative, the GC seeks three Research Associates/Post-Doctoral Fellows for the Institute for Research on the African Diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean (IRADAC) to support early career scholars from diverse backgrounds, particularly historically underrepresented groups, in the study of the African diaspora or Africana Studies related to diasporas, migration, and transnationalism.

IRADAC fosters understanding and critical interpretation of the history, development, conditions, status, and cultures of peoples of African descent in the Western Hemisphere. Fellows will participate in IRADAC activities and their own discipline's Ph.D. program, engaging in original research, publishing results, and presenting at conferences, seminars, workshops, and working groups. They will collaborate with IRADAC Dissertation Fellows and Early Research Initiative recipients, with opportunities for feedback and professional development. Teaching opportunities may be available with an adjunct appointment.

The appointment is for the 2026-2027 academic year, effective August 25, 2026. The position reports to the Director of IRADAC and requires in-person work at the campus office 70% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability. Candidates must have received their Ph.D. in 2022 or later, or deposit their dissertation by July 2026. Preferred fields include Anthropology, English, Francophone Studies, History, Latin American and Latinx Studies, Psychology, Sociology, and Urban Education.
