We are seeking a Research Nurse to have general knowledge of principles, concepts, and theory behind research, applies general analytical skills to oversee the logistical implementation of assigned projects, and to identify situations requiring special attention; utilizing this knowledge will ensure adherence to research protocols, operating procedures, and all associated internal/external regulations. This position will work closely with, and be under the direction of, the Sr. Clinical Research Program Manager of the Department of Radiology.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess subject eligibility by comparing subject history and clinical laboratory results with protocol requirements.
- Consent, enroll and schedule eligible subjects.
- Perform clinical procedures relating to research protocols including case report and data collections forms, collecting data on past exposures and reaction, prior allergy evaluations, co-morbid conditions, and current medications.
- Coordinate study visits with the staff, interact with subjects, ensure collection of pertinent data and complete case report forms, monitor the subject’s clinical course and collect research data on subjects enrolled in research protocol.
- Responsible for entry of research data in study database.
- Assist with data analysis, manuscript preparation and presentation of research findings at local and national meetings.
- Responsible for maintaining records of patient related correspondence (labs, faxes, phone follow-up), maintaining IRB and GCRC files, and assisting Research Nurse Program Coordinator in preparation of IRB renewals and amendments.
- Work with lab personnel to coordinate all subject related laboratory studies.
- Abstract data from patient medical records that requires interpretation.
- Use standard statistical techniques to ensure data quality and accuracy as required by research protocol.
- Utilizing working knowledge of study(s) will participate in meetings to provide operational updates, report on any operational issues, and make recommendations for resolutions to new/outstanding operational issues with Sr. Clinical Research Program Manager.
- Perform literature searches.
- Will abstract and index gathered information based on at minimum a working knowledge of the subject matter.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related discipline preferred.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually ($100,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
