This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant network of researchers within the NDCN to investigate the mechanisms underlying the development of neuropathic pain, a highly debilitating condition affecting approximately 9% of the population. The successful applicant will join the research team led by Associate Professor John Dawes, which focuses on the role of the immune system in pathological pain. Recent findings from the Dawes Lab have demonstrated that LGI1, a target of autoantibodies from neuropathic pain patients, plays a key role in regulating the severity of neuropathic pain. Building on these discoveries, this project will explore novel mechanisms linking LGI1 to pain regulation using transgenic mouse models, behavioural assays, cell culture, and electrophysiology. Key responsibilities will include lab management, technical support and assistance with experiments (e.g. immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, confocal imaging), maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, curating clinical bio-samples and managing sample archives. Comprehensive training and support will be provided across all aspects of the project.
The appointed applicant would have a degree in a relevant scientific discipline, experience of working in a laboratory environment, as well as having the desire to learn new techniques and participant in collaborative projects.
