We are now looking for a Science Technician to join us on a permanent, part-time basis, working 16 hours per week, term-time only (42 working weeks per year).

The Role

As a Science Technician, you will support the safe and effective delivery of science teaching for PGCE students.

Ensuring teaching sessions run smoothly and efficiently, you'll prepare equipment, manage resources, and maintain safe working environments.

Specifically, you'll set up and clear equipment for lectures and lab work, prepare chemical solutions, test and operate AVA/ICT equipment, and maintain accurate inventories of materials and consumables.

Additionally, you will:

  • Organise and maintain equipment, ensuring timely repairs and safe storage
  • Provide technical assistance to staff and students
  • Carry out risk assessments
  • Prepare and distribute advice sheets, safety guidance, and reprographics materials

About You

  • Experience in academic or secondary school laboratory environments
  • Demonstrate knowledge of facts, principles, processes and general concepts relating to Health and Safety (including COSHH), and safe storage and handling of chemicals and equipment
  • Good IT skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • To be educated to a minimum of GCSE level (grade A*-C), NVQ level 2 or equivalent in a science subject or equivalent level of practical experience
