About the opportunity:

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Safety & Wellbeing Manager to help shape a proactive, values-led safety culture across our diverse university community.

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Risk & Safety, you’ll lead key functions including WHS risk management, incident investigations, hazard assessments, and internal audits. You’ll also design and deliver wellbeing initiatives that support mental, emotional, and social health—ensuring they are accessible, culturally safe, and responsive to the evolving needs of our students and staff.

This role is central to embedding safety and wellbeing into everyday practice. You’ll oversee the development and continuous improvement of systems, policies, and programs, and work collaboratively across all areas of the University to foster a culture of care, accountability, and resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of health, safety, and wellbeing strategies and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and internal standards.
  • Oversee incident investigations, risk assessments, and internal audits.
  • Promote a culture of safety and wellbeing through campaigns, training, and engagement.
  • Manage wellbeing programs addressing mental, emotional, and social health.
  • Provide high-level reporting and strategic advice to senior leadership.
  • Lead and develop a small team of safety professionals.

About You:

You are a collaborative leader with a strong background in workplace health and safety, risk management, and wellbeing. You bring strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and a passion for creating safe and supportive environments.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in WHS, wellbeing, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation (e.g., WHS Act 2011, SRC Act 1988).
  • Proven experience in leading safety and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Experience in mentoring and team leadership.
