Scholar-in-Residence - Music
The Moores School of Music (MSM) at the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts is now accepting applications for a nine-month, part-time, non-tenure track position as a Music Scholar in Residence at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts (CWMCA) for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The successful candidate will initiate interdisciplinary projects and/or performances with CWMCA and MSM students and faculty, teach a 1/1 course load (one course each semester) in either MUSI (Music) or IARTS (Interdisciplinary Arts), mentor students who are doing interdisciplinary work, and vigorously pursue their creative/scholarly activities. In addition, they must reside in Houston for the duration of the residency and attend monthly meetings with the Director of the Mitchell Center and the other CWMCA Scholars.
The position of Music Scholar in Residence is designed for a post-graduate candidate of the highest caliber in their respective field with a strong interest in interdisciplinary studies. The candidate’s primary musical expertise may be in composition, performance, musicology, or music theory. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching, performance, research, or community service that has prepared them to teach in the areas of music and interdisciplinary arts.
The position is a nine-month appointment with a salary of $45,000 and a $1250 budget for project support. Benefits, accumulated retirement, moving expenses and a housing stipend are not provided. You may purchase low-cost temporary insurance though our on-campus Health Center.

• Mosaics: student and faculty multidisciplinary performance series (solos & small chamber ensembles)
The Music Scholar’s non-music collaborator(s) may be other scholars in residence (from creative writing, dance, theater, or visual art), faculty and/or students from other departments, or the Music Scholar themselves in a non-music role. While proposed projects will be given priority, the scholar should be prepared to alter or change their plans based on available collaborators. Most importantly, the Music Scholar’s focus should be to create meaningful collaborative experiences for UH students and faculty.

Qualifications: Applicants must have completed a graduate degree in music. Applicants should have definitive interdisciplinary research interests they wish to pursue while a Scholar in Residence.
