Why Your Role Matters:

The School Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the School, providing proactive leadership across all business functions to support its strategic and academic objectives. The role oversees the delivery of financial management, human resources, physical resources, student support services and work health and safety requirements, working closely with the Deputy Faculty Executive Director to ensure strong operational performance and compliance.

As a member of the Faculty Operations Management team, led by the Faculty Executive Director, the School Manager contributes to the development and implementation of Faculty-wide policies, procedures and systems aligned with University priorities. Reporting formally to the Deputy Faculty Executive Director, with a dotted line to the Head of School for strategic input into School planning and activity, the role manages a team of professional staff providing administrative and specialist support funded through both operating and external sources.

This position plays a critical leadership role within a collaborative, team-based environment, ensuring the School is supported by effective operational systems and a high performing professional services function.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Partner with the Deputy Faculty Executive Director and Head of School to advance and implement teaching and research strategies, and provide strategic and operational advice on School planning and performance.
  • Lead the day to day operational management of the School, providing leadership through change and mentoring and developing a high performing professional team.
  • Plan, manage and allocate financial, human and physical resources to support teaching and learning (including lifelong learning and work integrated learning), research, research training and administrative functions.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of Faculty strategic and operational business plans and reporting.
  • Oversee core operational functions including financial management, human resources, facilities and space, student administration, communications and marketing, ensuring alignment with Faculty and University policies and proactively resolving issues.
  • Partner with business units and operational leaders across the University to ensure effective service delivery across all School functions.
  • Represent the School on committees, lead or contribute to special projects, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders on operational matters.
  • Oversee the provision of administrative services, including advising academic staff on academic administration and supporting School responses to student matters.

Skills and Experience Summary:

  • Relevant degree and substantial senior management experience, or equivalent capability gained through a combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing, developing and supporting professional staff.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement capability, with proven ability to consult, influence and negotiate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in financial management, including the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic advice.
  • Proven capability in resource planning, goal setting and project management within a complex organisational environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with demonstrated initiative and sound judgement.
  • Experience leading business improvement initiatives and managing organisational change.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
