School Planning & Transportation Research Scholar
Essential Job Duties:
The NCSU ITRE School Planning and Transportation group supports Local Education Authorities (LEAs) in comprehensive planning for schools and communities (SchoolCAMP), enrollment, facilities and boundary planning (OREd) and school transportation (Bike/Ped, Transit, School Bus). The transportation team is primarily funded with an annual contract from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction while the school and community planning, enrollment, facilities and boundary planning activities are funded by individual contracts with LEAs.
This position will contribute to multiple initiatives at ITRE that support local, state and national Public Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade school district operational needs through technical expertise and project leadership. This position combines transportation, land use, and community needs utilizing current best practices in K12 Operations and quality Applied Research.
The primary function of this position is to support SchoolCAMP, a research and public sector consulting program designed to assist LEAs with comprehensive planning, alternatives development, impact analysis, and implementation of school facility development and boundary planning that is sensitive to local community needs and school transportation concerns. The successful individual will facilitate quality, trusting relationships with LEA leadership and staff, school board members, community partners, local elected officials, industry advocacy groups, and the research community.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
The person in this position is expected to support relationships with these key stakeholders and leverage these relationships to acquire future funding to sustain and grow the program, all while providing excellent service to existing partners.
Minimum Experience/Education:
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree plus 7 or more years of independent research experience, or substantive relevant experience and education.
Department Required Skills:
Complex, multi-partner Project Management skillset. Principles of Public Education, Land Use and Transportation Planning. Stakeholder and community engagement; mixed methods participatory planning. Familiarity with ArcGIS / QGIS and geospatial software platforms. Large data collection, cleaning, organization and descriptive statistical analysis.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
Graduate degree in Urban & Regional Planning, Public Education, Geography and/or Geospatial Systems, Engineering, and/or Public Policy. GIS Certification; Project Management Professional (PMP); Recognized Educational Facility Planner (REFP).
Anticipated Hiring Range:
$40.00 - $50.00 per hour
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, Hybrid schedule eligible
