About this Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and strategically focused Senior Building Management System (BMS) Engineer to maintain the reliability, optimisation and long -term development of the University’s Building Management Systems environment. Reporting to the Associate Director, Infrastructure and Sustainability, this role provides technical leadership across system performance, lifecycle planning, asset upgrades and energy efficiency initiatives. Working within Campus Operations and closely with Project Delivery and ITS, you will take a proactive approach to continuous improvement, ensuring the resilience, sustainability and future readiness of UQ’s control systems infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Maintain reliability, optimisation and continuous improvement of UQ’s Building Management Systems and associated HVAC control systems
- Support ADIS with strategic BMS asset management, long‑term planning, and budget forecasting to ensure system reliability, service quality, and spare‑parts availability.
- Planning and managing BMS asset upgrades, lifecycle strategies, UQ BMS Design Standards and commissioning frameworks
- Coordinate with Campus Operations and ITS to ensure maintenance quality, system integration, network management, and upgrade planning.
- Provide reporting, record keeping, knowledge sharing, and mentoring to strengthen internal BMS capability across the University.
- Plan and attend required shutdowns for projects, maintenance, and testing, including occasional out‑of‑hours work.
- Identifying and implementing energy efficiency initiatives through advanced control strategies and system analytics
- Providing high-level troubleshooting expertise and technical leadership across Campus Operations and Project Delivery teams

About You
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Process Systems Engineering or equivalent with a controls’ component, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- Extensive experience in the design, installation, commissioning, operation and optimisation of Building Management Systems or industrial control systems
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC plant and control strategies including AHUs, chillers, pumps, cooling towers and DX systems
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex BMS control issues and implement sustainable long-term solutions
- Experience developing technical standards, documentation with the ability to translate complex information into easy-to-read user manuals, design guides, commissioning checklists, etc.
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across operational and project teams
- A solid experience of building management system components and the types of algorithms used to control HVAC plant; knowledge of the key features of the Johnson Controls Metasys system would be an advantage.
