Senior Marketing and Communication Specialist
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing Manager serves as a strategic partner and liaison within the School of Engineering and Computing's centralized Marketing and Communications team, supporting the Computer Science department as a core area of responsibility while also engaging in school-wide and Dean's Office priorities.
In this role, the Marketing Manager works closely with departmental leadership and key stakeholders to translate priorities into clear, actionable marketing and communications strategies. The position involves regular engagement with assigned units to assess needs, align on goals, define creative direction, and coordinate timelines, budgets, and deliverables across channels. By serving as a trusted point of contact, the Marketing Manager ensures consistent, high-quality communications that balance departmental priorities with broader school initiatives and advance the School of Engineering and Computing's strategic vision.

Workplace Requirements
This is a remote work position (resides in Houston) with occasional requirements to be in-person on campus. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range
$81,000 -$90,000 annually
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Three or more (3+) years of full-time, professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
(Internships, student employment, or trainee roles do not substitute for the required professional experience.)

Essential Functions
- Responsible for overseeing strategic long-range plans/programs to meet organizational objectives for a school or department
- Defines and / or leverages the communication and brand strategy for the organization incorporating appropriate channels
- Sets and monitors budgets for broad based projects impacting many areas
- Selects and oversees the department vendor relationships
- Possess working knowledge of social media management and systems
- Writes and coordinates the production of marketing and communication materials
- Leads market research and analysis efforts
- Guides organization to use the results in strategic marketing direction, program segmentation and audience targeting
- Participates in university-wide and / or organization-wide initiatives and cross-functional teams to establish the organization as a strategic partner and thought leader
- Provide guidance to others
- Performs all other duties as assigned
