About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity a Senior Research Technician to join the dedicated research team at Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS). QAEHS is a multidisciplinary research centre committed to world-class research across the environmental health sciences including environmental toxicology, epidemiology, microbiology, health risk assessment and communication, and state-of-the art monitoring and analytical technologies to quantify emerging environmental health risks.

As a Senior Research Technician, you will support research activities in passive sampling research and related consultancy projects, provide both laboratory and field based technical support, as well as administrative assistance to the Centre’s research projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Extracting and processing samples for trace organic chemical analysis
  • Assisting in developing and validating methods and standard operating procedures for laboratory tasks associated with projects.
  • Undertaking maintenance and upkeep of facilities and equipment.
  • Contributing to the safe and efficient operation of research equipment, infrastructure, methodologies and protocols.
  • Ensuring the appropriate storage, handling and disposal of chemicals, equipment, stores and/or samples/specimens.
  • Assisting with routine team administration.
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of scientific, technical documents and presentations of data to clients.

About You

  • Completion of a degree level qualification in a relevant science-related discipline.
  • Sound laboratory skills and experience of wet chemistry methodologies, extraction techniques an advantage, ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and relevant QA/QC.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials, and meet WHS requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently on routine procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a similar role would be considered favourably.

Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks including verification of the right to work in Australia (employer-sponsored work rights are not available for these appointments) and mandatory immunisations. This may also include checks relating to gender-based violence matters or other integrity and conduct requirements.
