Senior Specialist, Reading and Writing - (HSE/DWED)

Job Description

The Senior Specialist, Reading and Writing - High School Equivalency (HSE) position is pivotal in supporting and enhancing the quality of Adult Education programs at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) Division of Workforce & Economic Development (DWED). This position is responsible for teaching, subbing, and assisting instructors by providing technical assistance and support/professional development, reviewing, developing, and approving ABE curriculum when needed. Additionally, this position will provide oversight of the (HSE) preparation classes with a specialization in Reading and Writing and support with other HSE and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Education or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of related field experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • TESOL, Adult Education.

Duties, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, CSN data systems including LACES, Lumens, CASAS, DRC Portal, etc.
  • Excellent listening, communication, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet constant/multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to track student progress.
  • Ability to assess special population needs, LEP and ABE students correct placement through assessing TABE/CASAS/WorkKeys scores.
  • Teach and/or understand the teaching methods of basic skills and high school equivalency (HSE) preparation.
  • Knowledge/practices utilizing Burlington English, EnGen, Aztec, and Workkeys.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and materials selection.
  • Knowledge of educational technology and its use in classroom environments.
  • Knowledge of career pathways and Clark County's emerging business sectors (Manufacturing, IT, Healthcare, Early Childhood Education, Business & Financial Services).
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to and respect for multi-cultural and multi-lingual populations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and have the ability to travel to offsite locations.
  • Knowledge of the basic elements of research and report writing.
  • Knowledge of college services including Financial Aid, Admissions, Recruitment and Retention, Disability Resources, and the Division of Workforce and Economic Development.

Salary Information

Administrative Faculty C - The starting salary is $61,553. This position is grant funded and contingent upon ongoing and continuous funding.
