Job Description

The Senior Student Program Coordinator of Leadership and Volunteerism leads volunteerism and leadership development initiatives that advance the university's mission by creating meaningful community engagement opportunities for students. This role develops, implements, and assesses programs; cultivates strong relationships with campus and community partners; manages key operational functions; oversees digital platforms and communication strategies; advises major student-led service organizations; and supervises student staff. The position ensures a data-driven, outcomes-focused approach to student engagement while supporting departmental operations, partnerships, and strategic projects across all three campuses.

This position is responsible for the following:

Program Leadership & Mission Alignment:

  • Support and advance the mission of the Leadership and Volunteerism Office through comprehensive program development and execution.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate programs that promote student volunteerism, leadership development, and community engagement in alignment with university priorities.
  • Expand programming initiatives and community partnerships to increase access to service opportunities.

Community & Campus Partnerships:

  • Serve as a primary volunteer liaison between students, faculty, staff, campus departments, and community partners.
  • Maintain productive relationships with local agencies and organizations including attending on- and off-campus meetings and serving on committees; oversee the community partner database and volunteer records.
  • Coordinate departmental involvement in state- and national-level projects and partnerships.

Student Engagement & Advising:

  • Recruit, advise, and support student volunteers and student-led organizations, including major initiatives such as The Big Event and the Lead Team
  • Assist students with identifying and securing on- and off-campus volunteer opportunities.

Assessment, Data, & Reporting:

  • Create and assess student learning outcomes; apply data-driven decision-making to inform program and departmental strategy.
  • Guide the use of assessment tools, data collection methods, and key performance indicators to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Research, collect, and analyze data for internal reporting, presentations, and responses to inquiries.

Digital Platforms, Marketing & Communications:

  • Oversee and maintain the university's community service/volunteerism platform across all three OU campuses.
  • Manage departmental branding and design, including website maintenance and the creation of outreach publications.
  • Plan and execute presentations, workshops, seminars, and educational sessions for students, faculty, community stakeholders, and public audiences.

Event & Project Management:

  • Plan, organize, and execute volunteer fairs, service events, community service projects, and other engagement initiatives.
  • Lead special projects and support cross-departmental initiatives.

Administrative & Fiscal Management:

  • Provide budget oversight for assigned program areas and support sponsorship and funding efforts.
  • Develop proposals and negotiate and administer contracts as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries, distribute information to staff, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree, AND:

  • 12 months of experience in student programming, student services, or closely related experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 60 months experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students, faculty, and staff
  • Create and maintain departmental website
  • Composition and proofreading skills
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases
  • Ability to work independently as well as in group settings and with a wide range of constituencies
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to create and execute effective presentations, to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations
  • Ability to function well in times of periodic pressure during busy periods

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Sit for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally walk and stand. Ability to bend, lift, stoop and carry. Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Environmental: Standard office environment. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.

Department Preferences:

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience with public and academic community service / volunteerism and student leadership development
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite software and website development management
  • Experience overseeing and maintaining a community service/volunteerism platform
  • Valid driver's license required to drive vehicle to retreats and take donations to volunteer sites
