SLHS Online/Hybrid Clinic Coordinator (Temporary)

About the Position

The Clinical Coordinator role includes responsibilities in clinical education and leadership, recordkeeping and communication, student advising, including overseeing clinical practicum placements for all students in the newly established online/hybrid Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program. The Clinical Coordinator will be primarily responsible for individualized placement of students into educational and healthcare practicum rotations and will work collaboratively with other program leadership and faculty to ensure high quality clinical education is provided throughout the curriculum. This position is part time, 20 hours per week position, and temporary through June 30, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment.

Responsibilities

Clinical Education and Placement Oversight

  • Oversee student placements for off-campus practica and internships (both in-person and telepractice sites).
  • Negotiate and monitor internship and clinical placement contracts.
  • Collaborate with the program ASC I to manage clinic and internship correspondence.
  • Travel to clinical placement sites, if necessary, for student support and site relationship maintenance.
  • Maintain student performance evaluation profiles.
  • Create and maintain placement records required for accreditation (e.g., site affiliation agreements, hours tracking, supervisor qualifications).

Student Support

  • Provide support for enrolled students, with a focus on clinical sequence and readiness.
  • Provide clinical support to students as needed, and as directed by the Program Coordinator and SLHS Department Chair.
  • Offer guidance on licensure requirements, certification pathways (e.g., ASHA CCC-SLP), and externship readiness.
  • Monitor student progress in clinical skill development and provide individualized support as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of clinical handbooks, training materials, and orientation sessions.

Clinical Program Administration and Professional Development

  • Work collaboratively with program faculty and the Program Director to ensure high-quality clinical instruction and mentoring across all program modalities.
  • Attend department and program meetings as requested.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities (local, state, and/or national) to maintain current knowledge of: best practices in client management, clinical supervision, professional, ethical, and regulatory issues relevant to CA SLP licensure and ASHA certification.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for clinic curriculum, remote supervision models, and student support initiatives in an online/hybrid learning environment.
  • Collect program evaluation data.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of clinical speech pathology work; speech anatomy and the basic pathologies involved in diseases or injuries resulting in physical and language disorders; current literature in the speech pathology field; and applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of speech pathology and patient confidentiality.

Abilities: Ability to effectively perform patient speech pathology evaluations and therapeutic interventions and demonstrate techniques to students; initiate and develop quality standards and protocols to ensure accuracy in tests; effectively use equipment for evaluations and therapeutic interventions including, but not limited to, audiometers, sonographs, language masters, delayed auditory feedback, and biofeedback equipment; communicate effectively with patients, parents, faculty, and staff and write professional-level reports and correspondence; plan, organize, and coordinate clinical operational activities; supervise students; maintain patient confidentiality as required by applicable state and federal laws and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and parents; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse patients, parents, and students.

Education and Experience: Master’s degree or equivalent in speech-language pathology or audiology from an educational institution approved by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board and equivalent to two years of clinical speech pathology work or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. License and Certifications: Possess and maintain a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a valid license from the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ethical, legal, and best practice principles and activities pertaining to clinical education in speech pathology.
  • Interpersonal skills that foster successful interaction among students, faculty, clinical supervisors and internship supervisors.
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Clinical or academic doctorate preferred.
  • Experience in higher education and clinical coordination.
  • Experience with online teaching.
  • Familiarity with learning platforms (preferably Canvas) and database management systems (e.g., Calipso).
  • Experience using video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom).
