Spanish Language Instructor- TRIO Upward Bound Math & Science Program
The TRIO Upward Bound Math & Science Program is seeking a passionate and committed Spanish Language Instructor to inspire and support high school students from underrepresented backgrounds in developing Spanish language proficiency and cultural understanding. The instructor will play a key role in fostering academic achievement and intercultural competence, preparing students for success in college and beyond.
This is a part-time position during the academic year (scheduled Saturdays for 4 hours) and up to 20 hours per week during the 6-week summer program.
- Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned Spanish language lessons focusing on communication, grammar, vocabulary, and cultural knowledge.
- Establish measurable learning objectives and assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
- Create an inclusive classroom culture that encourages active participation, curiosity, and mutual respect.
- Set and maintain high expectations for student behavior and academic performance in line with the Upward Bound mission and values.
- Employ diverse instructional strategies and technologies (including Learning Management Systems) to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Collaborate with fellow instructors and program staff to support students' overall academic growth and success.
- Use data-driven instruction to address individual student learning needs and support continuous improvement.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and engaging learning environment that fosters language acquisition and cultural appreciation.
- Communicate effectively in both Spanish and English with students, families, and program staff to promote student success and engagement.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.
Experience
- Two (2) years of teaching experience at a high school level or above, which must include:
- Working with diverse, underrepresented, and first-generation college-bound students.
- Curriculum development and instructional design.
- Teaching Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish courses.
Additional Requirements:
- Current Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification in Spanish (World Languages) instruction or Provisional Certificate. (Must upload a copy of your certification with your application)
