Position Details:

The Opportunity:

As the Student Accommodations Specialist for Student Affairs, you consult with and advise students with disabilities, review documentation, develop reasonable accommodations, and oversee the delivery of access services for students served. You promote student self-advocacy and self-determination while serving as a key point of contact for faculty and student service offices, including counseling, advising, career services, the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, and the College of Pharmacy. In this role, you serve on departmental, unit, and university committees, assist with developing program procedures, and develop and present informational workshops for students.

Percentage Breakdown of Job Functions:

  • Provide Direct Service to Students with Disabilities - 75%
  • Student Accommodations & Disability Resources Support - 10%
  • Serve as a Campus Resource - 10%
  • Other Duties - 5%

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary: $3,750.85 - $4,574.21 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience providing academic advising and academic adjustments/ accommodations to students with disabilities, OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills to include working with databases, spreadsheets and word processing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling).
  • One-two years direct experience serving students with disabilities in higher education.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA and other pertinent federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience for disabled students.
  • Knowledge of universal design and assistive technologies for people with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of student development and student affairs theory.
  • Sensitivity and competency in working with a diverse population.
  • Ability to effectively work as a member of a team and to work collaboratively with others.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
