Department Summary

The Student Care and Support Manager is a key member of the Office of the Dean of Students at Ohio University. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Manager provides day-to-day assistance to students navigating difficult life events, most often mental health and psychiatric emergencies, that may be impacting their ability to be successful at Ohio University through advocacy, case management, education, and empowerment.

The Manager will play a vital role in supporting students who are referred to the University's CARE team, as well as students seeking other assistance from the Office of the Dean of Students (some examples include: death in the family, general University related concerns, medical withdrawal, basic needs challenges, etc.). The Student Care and Support Manager provides support, coordinates services, and provides referrals to appropriate on and off campus resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a mental health case manager working with students in need and on the CARE team caseload:
    • Participate in weekly CARE (Behavioral intervention Team) meetings
    • Meet with students to assess needs and connect them with various on and off campus resources and monitor students for follow-up and interventions, as necessary.
    • Consult with faculty, staff, students, law enforcement, legal counsel, and other stakeholders as needed.
    • Facilitate outreach, education, and workshops regarding CARE team for campus constituents.
    • In collaboration with the Basic Needs Program Manager, provide case management for students experiencing financial emergencies and housing insecurity. Provide referral and support to students and review and process emergency microgrant applications.
    • Document all case interactions using electronic database system accurately and timely.
    • Maintain the confidentiality of all records in accordance with FERPA and institutional policy.
  2. Serve as designated single point of contact for students with a history in foster care, kinship care, or out-of-home placement by:
    • Working with the Ohio Department of Higher Education's Ohio Reach Postsecondary Designation Program to maintain this designation of being supportive and inclusive of foster care-connected students.
    • Serving as the Designated Campus Liaison for the Ohio Reach Postsecondary Designation program.
    • Build intentional outreach efforts to foster care-connected students and work to ensure they have their basic needs met and are aware of resources available both on and off campus.
  3. Contribute to the broader work of the Office of the Dean of Students by:
    • Participating in the on-call rotation and providing appropriate, coordinated response to personal and campus emergencies (including student deaths and missing students), and response and presence to campus demonstrations and protests.
    • Track and compile department data, maintain weekly data dashboard, and assist with annual report data for the Office of the Dean of Students.
    • Maintain consistent presence in the office for counsel/advising/problem solving with students, faculty, staff, and parents/families who call or drop in.
    • Collaborate and consult with key stakeholders and members of the student support networks both on and off campus to develop a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach for responding to, advocating for, and supporting students.

Position Profile

Supports the student experience outside the classroom by developing and implementing programs that promote student integration, well-being, and success. Develops and implements student non-academic programs, services, and activities, including residential life, social events, public service, student conduct, leadership development, student organization advising, and other areas.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 or more years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or Counseling preferred.

While clinical licensure is not required for this position, those with backgrounds in mental health professions and/or case management experience are encouraged to apply.

Pay Rate: The proposed salary range for this position is $44,592.00 - $59,085. The salary negotiated at the time of offer will be commensurate with education and experience while also considering internal equity. Work Schedule

This position is located on our Athens, OH campus, and an on-campus presence is necessary to fulfill the requirements of this position. Typical hours are Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm. Additionally, this position has a rotational on-call component (rotates between ~7 staff for an average of 2-3 weeks/semester on call).

When on-call, you must be able to respond to the campus within ~30 minutes.
