Job Duties:
The SET Student Experience Advisor coordinates and delivers career-related programming, resource materials, and advises students on ways to engage in activities that ensures students are career-ready and community-minded at graduation. The incumbent to this position educates students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders about career and internship opportunities, service-learning options, internships, and student employment that support student applied learning and helps them to build a professional network. The role also manages one or more career communities and strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of local and national employment market trends and their actual and potential impact on the hiring of college students and graduates.
- Compile and share data on student career advising appointments and other activities tied to their career community. Assist with data collection for the First Destination survey.
- Identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students.
- Manages relationships with external partners and employers to help with students exploring different career paths.
- Collaborate with faculty to promote student engagement in activities to support both faculty and students' growth in their respective professional networks.
- Engage with alumni and industry partners to participate in various programming initiatives to aid in students' knowledge about fields of work.
- Develops and delivers career development programming and resource materials across various mediums to provide education to students.
- Develop and implement year-long formal communication plan to students regarding services, events, and opportunities.
- Develop and deliver workshops and other programming for students.
- As needed, deliver career content in a classroom environment through formal or informal teaching.
- Participates in the centralized Student Experience and Talent team, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit that supports experiential learning.
- Assist with SET sponsored or co-sponsored school/major specific experiential learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with Partnerships and Events department regarding events such as career fairs.
- Partner with various faculty, student organizations, offices, and departments to support students in their career search.
- Represent the Center of Student Experience and Talent at campus activities. This includes student organization presentations, undergraduate and graduate student recruitment activities, and campus open house events.
- Partner with retention initiatives with various schools and colleges.
- Support forms of Experiential Learning programs not directly supported by SET that impact the career community such as service learning, internships, undergraduate research and more.
- Educates or advises students and recent alumni individually or in groups through various mediums about experiential learning, skill and professional network building, materials development, and career development.
- Guide students to become career-ready and community-minded individuals through education and exploration through programming, student employment, community-based learning / academic service learning, volunteerism, and internships / externships / co-ops.
- Manages one or more career community(ies).
Department: Center for Student Experience and Talent (SET)
Compensation:
$52,000 to $58,000
(Final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to one of the career communities
- Minimum of two years of experience working in university or college career services, employer relations, university recruiting, talent acquisition/recruiting in corporate environment, event planning/marketing or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a field related to one of the career communities
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, particularly, students, faculty, and professionals
- Familiarity with career assessments that allow students to explore careers based on their skills, interests and values, as well as resume building and writing, and interview techniques, and how professional networks are created.
- Previous experience planning events, facilitating workshops and programs, and presenting to large audiences, including in a higher education classroom environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and programs as one guides students through an array of development areas such as student employment, community involvement, internships, and other career development opportunities
- Demonstrated cultural competence and strong commitment to creating an inclusive work and learning environment
