Job Description Summary

Student Success Librarian for Disruptive and Emerging Technologies; Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian to collaborate with librarians, faculty, and campus partners to support undergraduate student learning by integrating multiliteracy into general education coursework through in-person and online instruction. The position develops and supports instructional programs and services that advance undergraduate engagement, creativity, critical thinking, academic preparedness, and student success.

Job Description

This role has a primary focus on bridging foundational information literacy with the complexities of disruptive technologies, supporting and promoting multiliteracies including information literacy, maker literacy, AI literacy, among other emerging technologies for student populations. The position contributes to a collaborative and sustainable approach to information literacy instruction in support of the Libraries’ instructional mission and reports to the Head of the Learning and Engagement department.

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • Design, deliver, and assess multiliteracy instruction for undergraduate courses in both in-person and online environments.
  • Develop and support instructional programs and services for undergraduate student populations, including orientation, Honors and Scholars programs, and other University and library initiatives.
  • Serve as a library liaison to University services and offices, potentially including: Center for Student Engagement, Activities and Leadership, University Honors College, and Office of Research for Undergraduates.
  • Collaborate with librarian colleagues and campus partners to plan, implement, and sustain programmatic approaches to undergraduate instruction and student engagement.
  • Contribute to the Libraries’ instruction program through instruction, development of instructional materials and learning objects, and participation in assessment activities to evaluate and improve student learning outcomes.
  • Provide planning and/or support to university and library programs and events that support student recruitment, academic preparedness, and retention, such as new student orientation and the Personal Librarian program.
  • Design instruction interventions that apply appropriate information literacy frameworks to multiliteracies and disruptive and emerging technologies (including generative artificial intelligence)
  • Engage in professional development, service, and scholarly/creative activities that support the Libraries instructional mission and meet promotion and continuing contract expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution (or international equivalent) completed by date of appointment. Appointment as Associate Librarian requires an established record of service and scholarship as described in the requirements.

Consideration will be given for candidates with:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy concepts and instructional practices, through professional experience, coursework, training, or development of instructional materials.
  • Demonstrated instructional experience with undergraduate students, including course-integrated instruction, workshops, or structured learning sessions in in-person, online, or hybrid environments.
  • Professional experience in an academic library with responsibilities related to undergraduate instruction, outreach, reference, or student engagement.
  • Experience teaching or supporting undergraduate learning, such as college composition, first-year seminars, general education courses, orientation programs, living-learning communities, Honors or Scholars programs, or undergraduate research initiatives.
  • Experience with multiliteracy frameworks and assessment practices, demonstrated through development or use of learning outcomes, rubrics, assessment tools, or instructional evaluation methods.
  • Experience with innovative or disruptive services, such as makerspaces and generative artificial intelligence.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative outreach or liaison work, evidenced by sustained relationships with academic departments or campus units that resulted in instructional, programmatic, or service outcomes.
  • Experience contributing to team-based or shared instructional initiatives, including co-teaching, shared curriculum development, documentation of practices, or participation in sustainable instructional models.
  • Demonstrated awareness of emerging and disruptive technologies in higher education, including AI literacy, ethical use of AI, or the impact of generative AI on information evaluation, research practices, or student learning.
  • Familiarity with coding languages or technical frameworks (e.g., Python, R, APIs, etc.) to support critical disruptive/emerging technology literacy and computational thinking instruction.
  • Knowledge of prompt engineering and algorithmic reasoning to support multiliteracy instruction.
  • Ability to meet the Libraries’ promotion and continuing contract requirements.
