Student Support Assistant - Grant Funded
Job Description
Harper College's Paths to College and Career Program is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Student Support Assistant to join our team at the Prospect Heights Learning and Career Center. This grant-funded role involves supporting program participants in assessing and improving their basic skills in math, reading, writing, and computer literacy.
Location: Harper College Learning and Career Center, located in Prospect Heights.
Schedule: Six hours per week with the possibility to increase based on need; the current schedule will consist of two three-hour shifts per week. Extra hours for projects may be available on occasion.
Pay Rate: $25/hour - This position is grant funded through March 31, 2026. Continuation of the position is subject to grant approvals/funds.
Program: Paths to College and Career Program, funded by the Illinois Community College Board Innovative Bridge Transitions Grant (IBT).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists students with enrollment in the Paths to College and Career Program.
- Responsible for creating user accounts, assisting with general navigation, and providing troubleshooting support for educational systems such as Essential Education, NorthStar Digital Literacy, Upwardly Global, and VMock platforms.
- Offers individualized basic skills (reading, writing, and math) and digital literacy support to students.
- Fosters a supportive and encouraging learning environment, including practices that assist multilingual and non-traditional learners in accessing learning tools.
- Monitor students' progress on the e-learning modules and provide them with feedback to help them achieve their learning goals.
- Maintain records of student participation and progress.
- Assists with maintenance of electronic and hard copy instructional materials and resources.
- Conducts proctored NorthStar Digital Literacy assessments to evaluate student progress and identify areas for improvement and referral.
- Provides monthly and quarterly reports for grant reporting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education:
Associate's degree or two years of college-level education.
Preferred Experience:
One year of experience in academic support, tutoring, or related area in an educational setting, preferably at the post-secondary level. Demonstrates excellent oral, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Fluency in Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, or other languages spoken by our students preferred. Demonstrable proficiency with educational and digital literacy tools preferred.
