What’s the job?

The Success Coach is responsible for implementing and coordinating programs and initiatives that support the transition and success of students when they commence university. This role involves collaborating with other member of learning services, faculty members, and other stakeholders to design and deliver programs and services that promote student engagement, academic success, and personal development. 

Day-to-day accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with faculties and other university departments to develop and implement retention initiatives and programs that meet the needs of the institution's diverse student population. 
  • Help support orientation and induction initiatives at TUA for students to ensure they are prepared for learning and successfully transition into higher education 
  • Provide individualised and cohort based academic competency development and coaching to students, including developing study plans, goal setting, time management, and learning strategies. 
  • Identify and address learning barriers and challenges that may be impeding student academic success.

This is a permanent, full-time role based at our Wakefield Campus in Adelaide. The role operates in a hybrid working model, with three days per week on campus, reflecting the student-facing nature of the position.

What you’ll bring

  • Student systems & digital confidence 
  • Experience using student and learning platforms such as Dynamics, Banner, and Canvas (or similar). You’re confident navigating systems to monitor progress, support engagement, and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong empathy for students 
  • A genuine commitment to student success, particularly for international students transitioning into Australian university life. An international background or lived experience is highly valued.
  • Coaching mindset 
  • An understanding of coaching principles (e.g., the GROW model) or a strong interest in developing coaching capability. We’ll support you to build your formal coaching skills.
  • Awareness of neurodiversity and student wellbeing 
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including neurodivergence, anxiety, or confidence challenges, with the ability to respond thoughtfully and practically.
  • Relevant industry or technical background 
  • Experience in game technology, software engineering, broader technology, or industry/business environments. This will help you guide students on subject selection, skill development, and real-world expectations.

Clear boundaries around the role 

This is not a counselling role. You’ll coach students on how to succeed academically navigating assessments, building study strategies, and adjusting to university life.
