Job Summary
The Summer Conference and Desk Assistant at Missouri Western State University serves as a leader, helper, and resource person for summer residents and guests. Summer Staff should show the initiative to think critically and creatively to solve problems. Summer Staff should be able to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of housing and residence life guests.
Essential Duties
- Answering questions and serving as a resource for residents and guests regarding the residence halls
- Connecting residents and guests to correct resources as needed
- Assists with checking out equipment and package delivery
- Assists with camp oversight during the summer camps/conference season
- Provide superior customer service to summer guests
- Works with Housing and Residence life staff to facilitate the check-in and check-out of camp/conference guests
- Update information centers such as bulletin boards, directional and informational signage, etc.
- Assist with building readiness, key assignment, form completion, and other administrative functions
- Work at the camps and conference building front desk
- Follow up on guest concerns and questions in a courteous and timely manner
- Assist with lockouts, lost keys, etc. while at the desk
- Assist in reporting maintenance and housekeeping concerns
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
To be employed as a Summer Conference Assistant, students must:
- Be enrolled as a student in the Fall 2026 semester.
- Maintain a minimum GPA of a 2.0 cumulative and semester GPA.
- Maintain good judicial and Residential Life standing.
- Must be eligible for Federal Work Study
Preferred Qualifications
Live in the residence hall during the term of their employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to maintain confidential information with tact and discretion.
- Show the initiative to think critically and creatively to solve problems.
- Communicate with and relate to a diverse group of students to understand their individual needs and to help those students establish strong social networks as well as connect with the appropriate campus resources.
Physical Demands
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Additional Demands
Available to work a variety of hours.
