Job Summary

This role is responsible for assisting in managing and overseeing the daily operations of the College’s District Archives, including the performance of the following broad, but not mutually exclusive archival functions: 1) appraisal and disposition; 2) arrangement and description; 3) preservation and rehabilitation; 4) documentary publication, historical editing and exhibit of archival materials; and 5) reference services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements
• Assesses, arranges, describes, preserves, exhibits, and maintains historical records and archival collections, according to recognized archival principles and standards
• Organizes records and develops classification systems and develops inventories, descriptions, and finding aids to facilitate access to collections
• Provides internal/external patrons assistance and reference services
• Acquires and develops archival collections from internal and external sources and coordinates transfer of institutional records of permanent and/or historical value to archives
• Identifies and addresses preservation issues; performs basic repairs
• Implements reformat projects (e.g., microfilm, copy photography, digital imaging)
• Conducts research in areas of history relevant to the collections
• Selects and edits documents for publication and display, applying knowledge of subject, literary expression, and presentation techniques
• Promotes and utilizes the collections for education and outreach through curriculum and exhibits
• Assists in coordinating educational and public outreach programs, such as tours, workshops, lectures, and classes
• Assists in administering policy guidelines concerning public access and use of archival materials
• Assists in researching, planning, developing and implementing short and long-range goals for the archives and in researching grant sources and writing grant proposals
• Assists in recruiting, training, and supervising subordinate staff and student workers

General Supervision and Management
• Provides leadership for the assigned direct reports

Service Excellence
• Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the Essential Performance Requirements
• Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
• Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
• Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Supervision
• Works under the general supervision of the assigned department leader

Required Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in history, political science, library science, or related field, with graduate level training in archives and three (3) years' work experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements, or any equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
One (1) years' experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others)

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Archivist
• At least one (1) year's working experience in exhibits, preservation, and digital archives
• At least three (3) years' working experience in archives, public library or records management fields
• At least one (1) year's working experience with automated library systems and the community college teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of archival, project and recordkeeping principles, practices, standards, methodologies, rules, regulations, and laws
• Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
• Skilled using computerized applications and enterprise systems, including document imaging, content management systems, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
• Ability to work with and facilitate cross-functional work at all organizational levels to meet department goals
• Ability to recognize problems promptly, gather and analyze information, interpret and manage complex regulatory information and requirements, explore alternatives, and apply and evaluate solutions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Compensation Details

Starting Pay - $70,400; Commensurate with education and experience

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
