Survey Center Research Scientist
Stanford's Institute for Research in the Social Sciences (IRiSS) seeks to hire a Survey Research Scientist to launch the Stanford Institute for Excellence in Survey Research (SIESR). This role focuses on providing survey research guidance to the Stanford community, analyzing survey data for the Public Pulse project, and supporting researchers in studying human behavior and public opinion.
SIESR aims to facilitate survey research, secure grants, advance survey methodology for more accurate results, and inform policy debates by disseminating findings to academics, media, policymakers, and industry.
This is a new initiative at Stanford University, requiring expertise in survey research and project management. Responsibilities include working with faculty and students on survey design, fielding, and data analysis; managing databases on American public opinion; monitoring and analyzing data; and developing reports and visual representations for various audiences.
Additional duties involve writing and editing content for proposals, publications, and grants; contributing to strategic planning; identifying new research opportunities; and organizing outreach activities like workshops and events.
Core Duties:
- Consult with faculty and students on survey design, administration, and data analysis, including proposal development.
- Source, collect, and analyze data, including writing scripts for data collection and creating databases.
- Develop tip sheets on best practices for survey research and promote them to the community.
- Write and edit content for proposals and publications, and assist with grant development.
- Contribute to program planning, funding, and financial sustainability.
- Represent the program, lead outreach, and monitor expenses.
Education and Experience: A PhD in a social science with emphasis on survey research is highly preferred. Program administration and research experience are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Includes entrepreneurship, data engineering, scientific computing, data management, and strong analytical skills. Highly desired: Interest in advancing survey methodology.
This is a 100% FTE, exempt, two-year term position with possible extension, based on campus with hybrid eligibility. The expected pay range is $116,966 to $150,114 per annum.
