Job Summary 

The Network Project Manager in the Central Network Center (CNC) provides all project management functions related to network systems for the Church Education System (CES) schools. This person plans and coordinates all aspects of network information system-specific projects, from initiation to delivery. Projects may include configuration, installation, deployment, and application development and upgrades for network systems at the CES institutions. This person coordinates communications and work performed by IT teams and internal customers, partners, and contractors. They define project requirements, perform feasibility assessments, and perform needs/impact assessments. They develop detailed project plans, and they manage all implementation processes including resource management planning, scheduling, progress tracking, monitoring change control processes, documentation, training, and reliable delivery of systems and services within established timelines and budgets.  

The Network Project Manager functions as the customer interface in determining the value of technical products and their fit with the business objectives of CES. This position also manages projects and services related to the Network Portfolio. The Network Project Manager will direct a strategy for the concept of a network product or service, and then will define it from inception to end-of-life. They will act as a central resource for all inquiries about the product/service. 

This position also directs those involved with all phases of the product/service or groups of products/services. They will also ensure that the systems are reliable, within budget, and delivered on-schedule.  

The Network Project Manager manages cost/benefit control and promotes new technologies and leading trends. This position involves participating in projects that span across all CES. 

What you'll do:  

1. Planning/Documentation 

  • Consult with customers and campus users to assess needs, gather project requirements, and verify that the business needs are represented. Recommend solutions that address both the needs of the customer and the business interests of OIT/BYU/CES.  
  • Consult with stakeholders and sponsors to recommend changes in project scope, schedule, or resources.  
  • Work with engineers, service managers, and stakeholders on any project scope or technology changes. 
  • Provide detailed, up-to-date documents of changes showing effect to budget, scope, and schedule.  
  • Define risks and validate changes/adaptations and risks to OIT leadership. 
  • Document and review project information, including potential risks and prevention plans. Ensure support paths are in place.  
  • Read system drawings and create technical drawings for projects as well as maintain templates for technical drawings.  
  • Prepare cost estimates for projects and project budgets and review financial reports for accuracy.   

2. Project Team Management 

  • Assemble project teams, schedule team meetings, and perform project management waterfall activities.  
  • Coordinate team reviews after project milestones. 
  • Meet with management to communicate progress. 
  • Meet with engineering teams and other team members to review progress, clarify assignments, and manage priorities, resources, and workload.  
  • Review the efficiency and effectiveness of those completing tasks.  

3. Project Management 

  • Schedule project work, using project scheduling/task tracking tools to generate and manage digital project schedules.  
  • Garner and utilize feedback from service management, contractors, and resource teams on scheduling needs. Help develop/implement new tools, processes, and concepts for scheduling. 
  • Manage key dependencies, risks, and conflicts and resolve escalated issues. 
  • Oversee OIT work order creation and create parent-child work orders where appropriate. 
  • Review/audit the work of others and review reports of other project managers. 
  • Create and distribute project schedules and status reports.  
  • Establish and manage major project task priorities and cross/project priorities.  
  • Manage project deadlines and work proactively with management to resolve project priority problems and establish priority levels when there are multiple projects.  
  • Recommend and implement innovations, process improvements, and project management tools.

What we are looking for:   

This position provides an opportunity for people of varying levels of skill. If you have a lot of education, experience, and skill, we'll compensate you accordingly. If you are early in your career, this could be a great opportunity for you, too. Different levels of pay are assigned depending on experience/education/skills.   

Entry Professional (Level 52): 2 years of IT, product/project management, or business analysis education and/or experience. ($61,500 to $80,000 approximate starting salary range)  

Early Career Professional (Level 53): Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or product/project management or business analysis experience. ($69,000 to $89,500 approximate starting salary range)   

Professional (Level 54T): Bachelor's degree and 2 years product/project management or business analysis experience OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience. ($83,000 to $107,500 approximate starting salary range)
