Job Description

The Department of Justice Sciences at the University of Findlay is seeking an experienced criminal justice expert for a full-time Assistant Professor position.

The program invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Justice Sciences program, housed in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The ideal candidate for this position would be well qualified to teach courses and assist with course and program development and instruction in the fields of criminal justice, (GIS) crime mapping, crime data analysis, and homeland security.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess a Ph.D. in Geographic Information System Analysis (GIS), Criminal Justice, Criminology, Security Studies or closely related field and expertise, credentials, and qualifications to support academic programming, research, and service in (GIS) crime mapping, crime data analysis, and/or homeland security. Candidates with a master’s degree and significant tested experience in (GIS) crime mapping, crime data analysis, homeland security, and/or criminal justice will also be given consideration. ABDs will be considered; however, Ph.D. must be obtained by the date of appointment. A J.D. is not a suitable degree for this position.  The Justice Sciences Department is committed to student-centered education, professional development, and scholarship, emphasizing teaching and serving as a mentor for undergraduate research efforts. Rank as assistant professor and salary are commensurate with qualifications.

Availability for undergraduate instruction in the disciplines of criminal justice, (GIS) crime mapping, crime data analysis, and/or homeland security in both seated and online modalities with the potential to teach in both formats. Strong written and oral communications skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds, programs, and colleges.

Potential to develop a research agenda in criminal justice, (GIS) crime mapping, crime data analysis, and/or homeland security disciplines as evidenced by submission of peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, and/or grant proposals.

Applicants are expected to possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate criminal justice courses.  The selected candidate will also be expected to develop and maintain an independent and active research program; advise undergraduate students; advise, mentor, and supervise undergraduate student researchers; and provide service to the profession, university, program, and community.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The UF Employment Application may be found on the website at: https://www.findlay.edu/offices/business-affairs/human-resources/Open-Positions.
