Adjunct for Teaching Pathways Program

The University of Olivet, a liberal arts institution with an historical commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social justice, seeks online Adjunct Instructors for courses in the area of Teaching.

Potential courses include:

  • Classroom Planning and Building,
  • Instructional Strategies (HS and Elementary),
  • Family and Community, and
  • Child Development

 Position Details

The University’s education program is unique in that it is a partnership with #T.E.A.C.H., a State of Michigan approved Alternate Route Certification provider, to develop the content for the courses. Instructors will work closely with a #T.E.A.C.H. coach (including bi-weekly check-ins) to ensure student understanding and success. The #T.E.A.C.H. coach will be grading student work done through the online modules while the instructor will be facilitating class meetings, grading class assignments, and supervising fieldwork. Instructors will need to coordinate lessons and discussions with the content information students are studying through the modules.

All courses are taught online asynchronously with a required weekly synchronous meeting time decided by the instructor and accessible for students. All courses also include fieldwork, and instructors will be expected to help students track their experiences by coordinating with the Director of Teaching Pathways.

Students from underrepresented minorities constitute 26% of the current student body, with almost 20% of the student body identifying as African American. Approximately half of the student body is Pell grant eligible. Members of historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  1. Earned doctorate in the area of instruction or related field is desired; master’s degree in education or in teaching a content area will be considered.
  2. Candidates with secondary math, secondary science, or elementary certifications preferred.
  3. Candidates must have extensive experience teaching in Michigan k-12 classrooms and a commitment to teaching adult students in an inclusive, ethnically diverse environment.
  4. Seeking candidates who are open to innovation and collaboration, who embrace Olivet’s relationship-based approach to pedagogy, and who embody our commitment to inclusivity.

Starting Date: Review of applications will begin immediately and continue as needed.

Application Process: Select “Apply” to set up a profile and upload the following materials:

  1. Letter of application;
  2. Current resume or curriculum vitae with contact information for three references;
  3. One-page statement of your interest in and experience with working with a diverse population of students in a multi-ethnic environment;
  4. Transcript from the highest degree-granting institution related to the position (official or unofficial) and/or documentation of graduate coursework in the area of instruction; and
  5. Student evaluations (optional).

Offer of hire is contingent upon receipt of official transcripts, completion of a background check, and verification of information submitted.
