Visiting Technical Instructor of Welding-One Year Position
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: Do you have a passion for sharing your craft and teaching with the next generation? If you have extensive experience in welding, we would love for you to join our family of exceptional instructors. Must have experience in all processes of welding, including, but not limited to shielded metal arc, oxy-fuel, fabrication & blueprints, oxy-fuel, gas-metal arc, pipe welding, flux core and automation. This position is for one year only.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach (which includes lecture and lab instruction) 15 credit hours per semester and maintain 5 hours of office time per week.
- Work independently, as well as in collaboration with colleagues, to develop innovative curriculum which meets the needs of our diverse population of students.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in welding, using the most current equipment, and other technology to enhance instruction in necessary areas.
- Working knowledge and skill of up-to-date industrial trade principles, methods, and techniques.
- Assess student performance in coursework with industry-related standards and expectations.
- Determine program needs and maintain program budget including purchasing and cost control.
- Knowledge of industry utilized construction equipment and recognition of equipment functionality.
- The successful applicant will successfully interact with students, business and industry representatives, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the public in a professional manner.
- Assist in recruitment, advisement, placement, development of cooperative work experience opportunities for students and follow-up of students.
- Serve as representative of the department by participating in committees, task forces, and events at the campus, college, and/or state levels.
- Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills. Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- Advise students, maintain student files and paperwork, including job sheets, registration, and intent to graduate.
- Coordinate industry engagement with local employers for advisory committee, internship, and other industry specific needs.
- Perform all responsibilities and instructional duties in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as CMU Tech/CMU policies and procedures.
- Ensure the maintenance of appropriate approvals & accreditation, maintain and develop the curriculum in step with industry and state requirements.
- Promote a positive collegiate atmosphere and develop positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
- Applicant will perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Certificate from an accredited institution in related field
- Minimum of 4,000 hours of experience in construction trades in the last 7 years
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in related field
- AWS Certified
- Evidence of teaching ability and or previous teaching experience in field
