Position Overview
The Dean of the Classical Christian Honors College is responsible to develop and launch UNW’s CCHC and to provide excellence in administration and teaching through the fulfillment of the mission and strategic goals of the University. Establish the CCHC’s mission, philosophy, and direction. Provide leadership for faculty, staff, and program curricula. Appoint qualified faculty and staff.
What will I do in this position?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Meet University and Dean requirements in the areas of qualifications, teaching, service, scholarship, and integration of faith and learning.
Support and promote the mission and philosophy of the University.
Build strong relationships with internal and external communities of interest, and represent the University and CCHC in a positive light in all interactions.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide visionary leadership in developing and launching the CCHC in alignment with UNW’s strategic vision and plan. Meet CCHC pro forma expectations.
Create, support, and promote the mission and philosophy of the CCHC in alignment with UNW’s mission documents.
Articulate a plan for the ongoing evaluation of the CCHC in collaboration with University Administration, CCHC faculty, staff, and students.
Contribute to development activities and opportunities on behalf of the University and CCHC.
Represent the CCHC and University positively in interactions with professional and academic groups at local, state, and national levels.
Confer with UNW Marketing and Advancement to support and promote marketing and fundraising efforts that will enhance the reputation of the CCHC. In collaboration with UNW Marketing, develop annual marketing and recruiting plan for prospective CCHC students.
As the primary student recruiter for the CCHC, in collaboration with Enrollment, lead CCHC recruiting outreach through UNW Enrollment’s Slate database. Manage, record, and track incoming CCHC applications. Conduct entrance interviews with CCHC applicants.
Establish metrics for success and evaluation of CCHC including the goal of 10% of traditional student population enrolled as CCHC students within 5 years.
Meet with prospective students and parents throughout the year. Attend on-campus recruiting events. In collaboration with Enrollment, arrange for prospective students and parents to visit CCHC classes and meet current students and faculty.
Visit local and out-of-area groups to promote the CCHC and UNW and support CCHC faculty who do the same.
Provide ongoing monitoring of current trends that can significantly impact classical education; implement necessary changes to maintain relevance.
Provide leadership in preparing annual reports and pertinent accreditation reports required by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and any other related governing or accreditation bodies.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer the CCHC according to the University Bylaws and policies.
Participate in the management of CCHC operations and its resources.
Work with University personnel in establishing priorities in the allocation of available resources.
Provide support for national and statewide student recruitment activities for the CCHC.
Facilitate CCHC faculty accomplishment of Teaching, Service, Scholarship, and Integration of Faith and Learning as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
Serve on University Committees as elected or appointed.
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of CCHC program offerings, both curricular and co-curricular.
Appoint, evaluate, and supervise full-time and part-time CCHC faculty members, working in collaboration with the Academic Dean as appropriate.
Facilitate program interactions and develop/maintain supportive interdisciplinary relationships with internal and external communities of interest.
Create and maintain a positive, forward-moving, student-oriented, caring, and Christ-centered academic atmosphere for the CCHC.
Manage teaching schedules for CCHC faculty. Manage class schedules for all CCHC courses.
Manage faculty-student mentoring loads for CCHC faculty mentors.
Conduct annual or biennial faculty evaluations for full-time CCHC faculty and submit a summary to the Academic Dean for part-time CCHC faculty who are full-time for the University.
Coordinate with fellow Academic Deans to ensure collaboration and success between CCHC and all Northwestern academic programs and majors.
Coordinate the review of the primary CCHC syllabi by all CCHC faculty on a regular basis.
Collaborate with appropriate Academic Deans and faculty to coordinate CCHC applicable study abroad classes.
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
Create an enriching environment where learning can occur for all students.
Teach twelve credits per calendar year unless otherwise directed by the Provost.
SCHOLARSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Encourage and support CCHC faculty in their scholarship and research endeavors.
Coordinate faculty development program for Honors College faculty members (training events for both for classroom teaching skills and for individualized one-on-one mentoring skills).

What will it take to succeed in this position?
Minimum Education and Experience:
Terminal Degree in related field required
Teaching experience in a classical education setting required
A strong record of academic accomplishment, entrepreneurial leadership, and broad, diverse perspectives and interests required
A record of curricular and programmatic development and assessment, with proven dedication to high-quality undergraduate teaching, research, and mentoring required
Minimum of five years experience in the administration of academic programs in a college or university preferred
Minimum of five years experience leading a team in administrative roles with progressively increased responsibility preferred
Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern; and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community.

Strong knowledge base in educational foundation, instructional methods, classroom management, and teacher development
Commitment to excellence in teaching and academic advising of undergraduate students
Understanding of curriculum and course development, including course and program assessment
Basic computer proficiency with ability to efficiently and accurately use the computer to carry out job responsibilities
Ability to secure and maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile
Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment
