The Division of Student Affairs (DOSA) at West Chester University is dedicated to supporting student development, experience, and success through our co-curricular programming and support.
The Campus Assessment, Response, and Education (CARE) Team is a campus-wide service that provides a caring approach of identification, consultation, and coordination of University responses to situations involving students who engage in concerning, disruptive and/or potentially harmful behavior. Student Assistance is a service provided to support students missing three (3) or more class days and aids in faculty notification with supporting documentation.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Health and Wellness, the Case Manager serves as a higher education professional who provides non-clinical case management services to students with at-risk mental health and social support needs through interventions, referrals, and connection to follow-up services. Case management involves supporting students who are in distress or need to be absent from classes due to medical, family, or personal emergencies. The Case Manager also develops and implements campus educational outreach and training programs focused on health and wellness initiatives to support students as they progress through their collegiate experience.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; experience supporting students in distress; experience providing educational outreach and training programs; the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate with campus partners, students, and families.
Responsibilities include:
- Serve as a case manager for CARE and Student Assistance cases for students experiencing emerging or chronic situations that may compromise their ability to be successful
- Implement non-clinical interventions including but not limited to providing campus resources, coaching students on self-care and advocacy, assisting students through university processes, and conducting non-clinical assessments
- Monitor and maintain accurate documentation in Maxient case management software regarding student progress and adhere to established individualized care plans
- Serve as a secondary CARE team member, attends CARE Team meetings when requested, creates meeting agendas, and documents meeting notes in Maxient
- Provide timely review and response to emails, referrals, outreach attempts, documentation, and intervention strategies
- Connect with referral sources, faculty, staff, and families while keeping private student identifiable information protected via FERPA requirements
- Create educational and promotional materials designed to create awareness, understanding, and participation with CARE Team and Student Assistance initiatives
- Maintain Health & Wellness website, events, and centralization of programs
- Develop, deliver, and schedule tailored training programs aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of students, faculty, and staff members for CARE and Student Assistance
- Collaborate with various departments to identify training needs and conduct event tabling to promote co-curricular programs
- Contribute to edits and updates made to the CARE Manual, NABITA Standards, and other AVPHW related protocols to support operations, processes, and procedures.
- Regularly update and maintain the AVPHW website to ensure accurate and current information is presented to stakeholders
- Engage in ongoing professional development, including conferences, campus events, and online modules to enhance knowledge and skills in behavioral intervention or case management
- Contribute to University and Division of Student Affairs initiatives, committees, and events
- Complete projects and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in humanities, psychology, social work, sociology, public health, urban studies, or related areas of study
- Experience communicating with individuals presenting a concerning behavior to self or others
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, higher education/student affairs, or related area of study
- Experience providing support to individuals in crisis
- Work experience as a case manager or similar role
- Work experience in higher education
