Teaching and Research Imaging Radiographer
Job Description:

- Part-time (75%), permanent position with established research and clinical team
- Base salary will be in the range $95,361.61 - $102,302.91 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 6), with an attractive compensation package to be negotiated for the successful candidate, based on experience
- Based primarily at our St Lucia Campus, with 20% of time based at Herston
About This Opportunity
This position is part of the University of Queensland Human and Companion Imaging team at AIBN (0.55 FTE) and Herston Research Imaging Facility (0.2 FTE). The facilities are dedicated research and clinical environment providing high-quality MRI, CT, PET-CT, Ultrasound and skin lesion monitoring services in support of research and clinical programs.
As the Teaching and Research Imaging Radiographer, you will contribute to the delivery of routine and established research imaging services and will play a role in teaching and education within the Master of Magnetic Resonance Technology program.
The role operates under established protocols, procedures, and supervision and does not hold operational management or delegated authority responsibilities.
The role operates on a fortnightly schedule, with working days in Week 1 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and in Week 2 on Monday through Thursday.
Key responsibilities will include:
Imaging Service Delivery
- Perform MRI, CT, X-ray scans for approved research participants and clinical patients in accordance with established imaging protocols and Facility procedures.
- Prepare participants for imaging procedures, including completion of required documentation and checks under supervision and within approved frameworks.
- Deliver consistent, high-quality imaging data through adherence to standardised workflows and imaging practices.
- Ensure research imaging data are appropriately processed, organised, and securely stored in accordance with Facility and University policies.
- Assist in setting up Molecular imaging research projects and protocols.
- Support the delivery of the Magnetic Resonance Technology Master’s program.
Radiation Safety, Ethics & Compliance
- Conduct and document mandatory MRI and radiation safety screening for participants, staff, students, and visitors entering the imaging environment.
- Support the maintenance of radiation safety documentation and standard operating procedures, in collaboration with senior imaging staff and Radiation Safety Officer.
- Participate in laboratory safety audits and compliance activities as directed.
- Escalate safety concerns, incidents, or non-compliance issues to senior staff in accordance with Facility governance processes.
Technical Expertise & Protocol Management
- Maintain current knowledge of established, emerging, and experimental imaging techniques utilised at CAI.
- Support the setup, testing, and optimisation of imaging protocols for new and ongoing research projects.
- Assist in troubleshooting imaging-related issues, including equipment faults, data quality problems, and workflow inefficiencies.
Equipment & Quality Assurance
- Perform routine quality assurance (QA) scans and ensure all imaging equipment is maintained in optimal working condition.
- Coordinate with service engineers and relevant staff to manage equipment faults, maintenance, and downtime planning.
- Monitor and report equipment performance issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory equipment
About You
- Completion of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in Medical Imaging, with 3-4 Year experience in clinical and research MRI or CT
- Registered with the AHPRA Medical Radiation Practice Board as Diagnostic Radiographer or Nuclear Medicine Scientist
- Queensland Radiation User licence
- Sound understanding of MRI, patient preparation and cross-sectional
- Demonstrated ability to perform research and clinical imaging in accordance with established protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Well-developed communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers, clinicians, students, and technical staff.
- Strong organisational skills, including accurate data handling, documentation, and adherence to governance requirements.
- Competent computer skills, including the use of clinical and research imaging systems and standard office software.
- Ability to work independently within defined scopes of practice and to escalate issues appropriately.
- Demonstrated understanding of principles of safety requirements for nuclear medicine and magnetic resonance imaging environment
- Demonstrate ability to establish co-operative working relations with staff across a variety of professional organisations
Desirable
- Postgraduate degree in Magnetic Resonance imaging
- Demonstrated ability to perform image analysis using established imaging software (e.g. vendor tools, open-source or research platforms) in accordance with approved research protocols
- Ability to apply, modify, and run existing data analysis scripts (e.g. MATLAB, Python, Presentation) to support research imaging projects.
- Experience working in a clinical environment.
- X-ray and PET/CT experience.
