Teaching Assistant Professor of Music Business and Industry - School of Music

Description

A full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track, benefits eligible position. The appointment may be renewed, at the Dean's discretion, on an annual basis.

The primary assignment is teaching undergraduate classroom-based music business & industry courses and assisting in the general management of the program's student-run record label. Online instruction at the master's level may be assigned.

The successful candidate must be able to teach across the undergraduate and graduate music business and industry curriculum, including intellectual property in music industry, music publishing, live music industry, recording industry, music marketing, recording/live music production, entrepreneurship in the music industry, international music industry, as well the historical background and development of all branches of the industry.

Additional teaching and administrative/service responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the program, the School of Music, and the abilities and interests of the candidate. Participation in School of Music activities, attracting and retaining students, academic, internship, and program development, and faculty governance are required.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 14, 2026 (classes begin August 18, 2026)

Qualifications

A Master's Degree in Music Industry (or Music Business or closely related field) is the minimum degree required for this position. The successful candidate must have comprehensive knowledge and professional experience in one or more of the following: recording industry, music publishing, professional recording, live music industry, live production technology, software and engineering techniques, or knowledge of AI systems and tools.

Two years of collegiate teaching in classroom-based and/or online courses in the music industry field, as well as expertise in record label operations is required.

The School of Music seeks a candidate who will demonstrate exemplary communication skills, collegiality, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the University.
