Departmental Overview
The Berkeley Art Studio is open to the entire community and UC Students, Faculty, and Staff. We offer classes in ceramics, painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, design, craft & textile arts. The Studio has a rich history of providing quality art instruction for our members. It is a welcoming place for students and artists at various skill levels. It has proven to be more than just a space, but also a community of artists committed to their craft.
Position Summary
Instruct class participants in one to four classes per week in the evenings and/or weekends.
Responsibilities
- Provides advanced or specialized pottery instruction to program participants in a classroom setting.
- Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement.
- Interacts with Berkeley Art Studio participants in a positive manner.
- Keeps current on teaching methods, techniques and skills through continuing education.
- Participates in required professional development activities.
- May provide guidance and instruction to other program instructors on best practices, procedures, methods and techniques on program activities.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of ceramics wheel throwing.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally.
- Skills to develop original ideas, creative problem-solving skills in a varied and challenging environment, including service orientation, program management, sound judgment and decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
- Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills.
- Proficiency in the use of basic computer programs relevant to job duties.
- Knowledge of and/or can quickly learn campus policies and procedures.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
- High school diploma in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Certification to instruct in the applicable recreational program or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in youth camps, fitness, and/or outdoor programs.
- Bachelors/master's degree in fine arts and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Red Cross CPR.
- Standard First Aid Training Certification.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $44.00.

- This is a non-exempt, biweekly-paid position.
