Tenure-Track Assistant Professor - COLS | Clinical/Counseling/School Psychology

The Department of Psychology in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of clinical, counseling, or school psychology beginning August 2026. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses, and potentially graduate courses, depending on specialization; research; and service to the university and community. Research expertise should include specialization in clinical/counseling/school psychology.

The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach clinically-oriented undergraduate courses (e.g., psychopathology), and an introductory course in psychology or general education. Depending on specialization, there is potential to teach clinically-oriented graduate courses as part of the School Psychology Program. In addition, the candidate will be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications, and contributes to advancing the department, the university, the profession, and society. The candidate will be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.

Full-time teaching responsibilities (4 courses per semester) may include undergraduate courses in psychopathology, interviewing and psychotherapy techniques, and courses in the faculty member’s area of specialization; graduate courses in child psychopathology and counseling skills as part of the School Psychology Program; and an introductory course in psychology or general education. Research expectations include maintaining an active program of research in clinical, counseling, or school psychology with opportunities for undergraduate involvement. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community and professional organizations as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.

The Psychology Department at UW-Whitewater offers a Bachelor's degree in psychology as well as M.S.E. and Ed.S. degrees in School Psychology through a NASP-accredited program. Faculty members in the Psychology Department have a broad range of expertise, are actively involved in scholarly and community pursuits, and share a common goal of supporting an inclusive and diverse working and learning environment. Our mission emphasizes scientific inquiry and critical thinking skills in our students. The Department boasts a variety of research spaces, a distance-education classroom, and access to technologies to support teaching and research.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D., Psy.D., or ABD in clinical, counseling, or school psychology. Candidates who are ABD must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2026; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2027 in advance of their first scheduled review. Evidence of potential for effective teaching. Evidence of potential for maintaining a strong program of research that involves students in meaningful ways.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated record of effective teaching. Demonstrated record of a strong program of research involving students in meaningful ways. Demonstrated record of commitment to principles of inclusivity. Training in evidence-based clinical interventions. Research or clinical specialization in youth mental health.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to interact respectfully with people with diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.

Compensation: Well-qualified candidates can expect a minimum starting salary of $60,000 commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications.
