Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Bioelectronics and Wearable Devices for Biomedical Applications
Job Summary: The University of Groningen is seeking an expert in wearable/flexible electronic sensor technology, bioelectronics, biosensors, and real-time health monitoring to strengthen research and teaching. This role involves developing a research line in advanced electronic materials for bioelectronic devices, including wearable biosensors, ingestible electronics, implantable devices, MEMS, neural probes, and systems for modulating organ function. The position offers a structured tenure-track system with potential advancement to Full Professor within 10 years.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and develop your own research line and research group.
- Teach in the bachelor and master degree programs in Biomedical Engineering.
- Supervise PhD candidates.
- Secure external funding for research projects.
- Promote the societal relevance of your research.
- Achieve and maintain international visibility through high-impact publications, collaborations, and participation in global and Dutch academic networks.
- Contribute to the faculty’s organization, including participation in committees and working groups.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Hold a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with at least two years of relevant work experience.
- Excellent publication record in international peer-reviewed journals and proceedings of renowned conferences.
- Ability to develop and lead an independent research line.
- Passion for mentoring students and innovative teaching.
- Strong international network.
- Demonstrated potential to secure external research funding.
- Strong communication skills (fluent in spoken and written English).
- Preferably experience abroad (e.g., during PhD, postdoc, or equivalent).
- Clear vision or experience in research valorization and translation of research outcomes into societal, industrial, or startup impact.
- New faculty members are expected to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years and learn Dutch to level B1 within two years if not already proficient.
What the Employer Offers:
- A tenure-track position with the possibility of a permanent appointment within 1-3 years, promotion to Associate Professor after five years, and Full Professor after approximately 10 years.
- Competitive gross monthly salary between €4,537 and €7,056, depending on experience.
