FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) POSITION STATUS: EXEMPT

THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO FILL TWO (2) POSITIONS

VOLUNTARY REASSIGNMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THE FIRST 7 WORKING DAYS (FULL TIME FACULTY ONLY), JANUARY 13, 2026, at 5:00 PM

10-Month Tenure Track Position

COMPENSATION:
Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.

Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Victor Valley College has implemented Guided Pathways. Goals for Guided Pathways are to create a more engaging experience for students, close the achievement gap, and ensure increased student success. This position will lead the comprehensive design, delivery of case-management, and intentional interventions within an assigned academic pathway; ensuring alignment with the Guided Pathways framework.
  • Promote the success of a diverse student population using research-based counseling/advisement methods, models, and strategies, including effective teaching modalities.
  • Counsel students on the appropriate academic, personal, career, and vocational aspects of their pathway; provide academic advising and counseling to an identified caseload.
  • Collaborate with students to develop comprehensive, individualized educational plans that take into account each students career/transfer goals and financial assistance needs.
  • Select and interpret educational, vocational, and personal assessment instruments.
  • Assist in the implementation of Student Equity and Achievement activities, such as orientation, placement, and progress follow-up, including Early Alert.
  • Participate in developing and implementing strategies and materials to increase student retention and transfer rates.
  • Expertly evaluate and articulate external transcripts and complex Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) requests, serving as a resource for colleagues on these policies and procedures.
  • Design and facilitate high-yield group counseling sessions and workshops focused on retention, transfer, academic success, and persistence, especially for disproportionately impacted students.
  • Outreach/liaison with local schools and community agencies.
  • Develop, teach, and assess advanced counseling courses in career planning, first year experience, and academic success; effectively integrating OER and ZTC resources.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, understanding of, and experience working with students and colleagues of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, ethnic, and historically underserved backgrounds.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Participate in planning, development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation of Counseling Services; Student Learning and Program Learning Outcomes; Program Review; and curriculum development.
  • Actively serve on area and college-wide committees that directly impact instructional policy and student success initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to institutional enrichment and increased student outcomes.
  • Comply with Title 5 and District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment and perform duties as assigned.
Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.
(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years of full-time (or equivalent) professional academic and career counseling within a California Community College setting.
  • A record of achievement in closing equity gaps and demonstrably increasing student retention and transfer rates.

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

In addition, some specialized courses may require specific certificates (must meet minimum content requirements specified by outside/other agencies based on accreditation).

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.

Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Knowledge of fostering inclusive environments for student learning.
  • Knowledge of integrating accessible practices into course design and teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach and support students across multiple modalities including, online, hybrid, remote, HyFlex, and correspondence while maintaining engagement and accessibility.
  • Knowledge of developing course syllabi.
  • Knowledge of Canvas.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all third-party accrediting bodies by keeping required credentials, certifications, and regulatory standards current when applicable.

ABILITY TO:

  • Ability to collaborate with others on projects for the department/college/community.
  • Ability to balance counseling schedule, teaching schedule, mentor students, and work on projects for the department/college/community.
  • Ability to develop and provide instructional curriculum that demonstrates innovation and full inclusion with specific attention to diversity.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility while operating effectively in an environment of change.
  • Ability to work with others,etc.
