Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Advanced Materials Manufacturing

Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering

Florida A&M University - Florida State University College of Engineering

Permanent, Tenure-Track Position

The Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering (IME) at the Florida A&M University (FAMU)-Florida State University (FSU) College of Engineering invites applications from highly qualified individuals for a tenure-track faculty position in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing. We are seeking faculty candidates for an assistant professor position; however, exceptional candidates will be considered for higher ranks. The anticipated appointment time is Fall 2026.

About the Department and College

The IME Department currently has 22 faculty, 41 PhD students, 118 MS students, and 160 undergraduate students, and an average annual research expenditure of $5.5M for the last three years. The two universities and outstanding research facilities in the affiliated research buildings/centers provide opportunities for collaboration with faculty in Computer Science, Scientific Computing, Statistics, High-Performance Materials Institute (HPMI), Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP), the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS), National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL), and FSU College of Medicine.

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the nexus of two major public universities, each with a distinct mission but focused on world-class engineering education and research. Created by the Florida Legislature in 1982, the joint institution is the college of engineering for both Florida A&M and Florida State universities. This unique combination of focus, resources and mission from our parent institutions has created on our campus a truly innovative atmosphere that leverages the benefits of the traditional HBCU model with the innovations of an R-1 public research university. After completing pre-requisites at their home institution, FAMU and FSU students learn, study and research together at our independent campus with joint-appointed faculty and staff. Students graduate from their enrolling university and from the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Both FAMU and FSU are part of the State University System of Florida and are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Additionally, all seven of the college’s eligible undergraduate degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in engineering, or a closely related discipline, and demonstrate documented potential for outstanding research. Applications from all materials and manufacturing areas are welcome. Areas of particular interest include advanced manufacturing for metal, ceramic, semiconductor, composite, and biomaterials, and nanomaterials and smart materials. Candidates with strong backgrounds in materials and processing innovation with applications to other manufacturing areas will also be considered.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates are expected to develop research programs that are internationally recognized with significant and sustained funding, incorporate interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers across campus, and demonstrate a strong commitment to engineering education. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and supervising master’s and doctoral students, and participate in service activities within the department, college, universities and profession.
