Your Role on the Team
Position Summary:
Responsible for coordination of incoming patient transfers to UCIMC. Verifies insurance benefits and obtains authorization as required. Communicates with physicians, coordinates M.D. to M.D. discussion. Coordinates between transferring facility, physicians and bed management in facilitating transfer. Effectively communicates with management as necessary. Uses several computer programs including Quest, Word, Signature and Passport. Accurately enters in to and maintains Transfer Center Data Base.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
- Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology
- Experience in a hospital or medical office setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare insurance
- Demonstrated experience with referral authorization process
- Demonstrated ability to interpret health plan benefit packages and make determinations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes
- Knowledge and experience using EPIC electronic health record
- Experience working with MS Office
- Ability to ensure proper billing or financial procedures for patients
