Duties & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Transfer Center is recruiting for a Transfer Coordinator to join our team! The Transfer Coordinator provides transition services and programs related to the enrollment and persistence of adult learners and non-traditional students at VCU. These services are provided to undergraduate students from pre-admission through graduation in coordination with other advising units to facilitate their matriculation and persistence at VCU.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide transition support to prospective and new adult and non-traditional students (50%)
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for adult and non-traditional students.
    • Host programming and individual transition support events.
    • Partner with the Office of Admissions and academic advising units to implement enrollment yield approaches that serve new and returning adult and non-traditional students.
    • Maintain support systems to meet the needs of working adults, students at a distance, and other student populations that are considered adult learners and non-traditional degree completers.
    • Cultivate relationships with external organizations to support adult student enrollment by serving as the university point of contact for corporate partnerships in regards to tuition assistance for employees to take classes and complete degrees at VCU.
    • Hire, train and supervise student workers assigned to support Transfer Center and Adult Learner initiatives.
  • Serve as lead evaluator of military/experiential learning credit and transfer advising specialist for University College (20%)
    • Partner with Military Student Services to support military personnel and dependents.
    • Receive and process Joint Services Transcripts in keeping with ACE recommendations and University policies.
    • Review ACE and NCCRS recommendations for awarding college credit for experiential learning.
    • Collaborate with academic units to develop evaluative protocols for awarding credit for experiential and workplace learning.
    • Serve as the primary transfer advising point of contact for prospective and admitted Interdisciplinary Studies students, including advising students in community college transfer pathways to the IDS program.
  • Assist with university efforts related to retention and re-enrollment of VCU students (30%)
    • Monitor transfer student matriculation and collaborate with academic advising units and SFMC on retention outreach initiatives.
    • Serve as Transfer Center resource for division initiatives related to reengaging stop out students and prior applicants.
    • Provide suspended students with external college course recommendations to support progress towards degree completion.
    • Oversee the external course approval process for all enrolled VCU students.

Qualifications

Minimum Hiring Standards:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with college students in a community college or university setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time, provide clear direction, and establish efficient priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate with others on projects.
  • Ability to work with a variety of student populations in a diverse community.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and Google applications, including presentations and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience working with adult and non-traditional and/or transfer students in a college or university setting.
  • Experience with supervising students.

This is a restricted position, continued employment is contingent upon continued funding. This position will close on September 21st at 7PM.
