Position Overview
The Academic Success Office at Presbyterian College is accepting applications for the position of Academic Success Coach. This person will report directly to the Associate Dean of Academic Success and will work one-on-one with undergraduate students to improve study habits and time management, provide accountability, and refer students to other campus resources. The Academic Success Coach will be responsible for meeting with students on academic probation, those who have violated the Honor Code, and those who reach out or are referred to the Academic Success office for assistance with academic skills.
Primary Position Responsibilities
- Meet individually with students who are at risk for non-persistence due to academic difficulties.
- Implement a schedule of individual meetings with students who are on academic probation to monitor their progress and refer them to campus resources throughout the semester.
- In coordination with the Associate Dean of Academic Success, receive regular early alert reports from professors regarding academically struggling students and provide individual interventions.
- Participate as an active member of the PC Cares group to identify possible students at risk for non-persistence, request interventions from other support services, and establish action plans to intervene when necessary.
- Coordinate with the Director of Presby First+ and the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance & Academic Success to intervene with students who have multiple midterm deficient grades.
- Meet with students who receive a deviated penalty for violations of the PC Honor Code to provide remediation.
- Assist the Associate Dean of Academic Success in connecting with prospective students, the campus community, and external groups to promote support services and in developing and providing programs and services to promote academic skills to the campus community.
- Support assessment of services by maintaining detailed and accurate records of all student interventions.
- Report on the progress of students on academic probation to the Academic Review Committee at the end of each semester.
- Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all students in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic Success.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- 2+ years experience working in higher education advising, coaching, or other support services.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a cooperative academic setting and an ability to take initiative and be self-directed.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and an ability to learn new programs quickly.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple simultaneous projects and competing priorities.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds in a respectful, equitable, and inclusive way.
