TRIO Academic Advisor (MnSCU Academic Professional 2)
Job Description
Provide comprehensive academic advising, case management, and student support services to participants in the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. This position focuses on supporting low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities in achieving academic success, persistence, and graduation. The advisor delivers individualized advising, monitors academic progress, and connects students to institutional and community resources while ensuring compliance with federal TRIO regulations.
Salary Range
25.67 - 37.26 USD Hourly
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, higher education administration, or related field, plus one year of experience supporting student or academic affairs or adult developmental education. Two years of experience and a bachelor's degree in process/to be completed within four years is also acceptable.
- Training on student retention issues in higher education and working with underserved and high-risk populations.
- Demonstrated decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of best practices in supporting high-risk populations
- Work experience in case management including providing advisement to clientele.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with faculty and staff, participants, parents
- Proficiency in word processing, database, and web-based applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of related experience monitoring student progress and collaborating with faculty to support academic achievement.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and communicate complex data sets
- Experience facilitating workshops or small group academic support sessions.
- Experience with case management or holistic advising models
- Knowledge of TRIO Student Support Services program goals and federal regulations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and provide constructive feedback.
- Familiarity with policies and issues affecting low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and helping students achieve academic goals.
- Experience applying diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices in academic support environments.
- Personal, academic, or professional experience overcoming barriers similar to those faced by TRIO-eligible students.
- Experience with student information systems, case notes, data tracking, or federal reporting requirements.
Other Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
