Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federally funded TRIO program that assists middle and high school students from first-generation and low-income families in developing the motivation and skills necessary to complete secondary school, enter postsecondary education, and be successful. ETS offers participants advising, academic support, classes, exposure to career and educational opportunities, and college tours. The target area for the program includes two middle schools and two high schools within Pueblo School District 60 as well as HOPE Learning Academy Middle School and High School.

The Student Success Coordinator for ETS is responsible for facilitating educational, cultural, and social development and enrichment activities for middle and high school program participants. Student Success Coordinator also provides participants with an educational environment conducive to obtaining a high school diploma and assists with preparation to gain entry into a post-secondary institution.  In addition, this position serves as a liaison for TRIO Educational Talent Search Program for principals, teachers, and community members/partners. This position is responsible for providing leadership in strategic and program planning efforts, peer tutoring and non-student tutoring. The Student Success Coordinator provides assistance with program planning, budget management, and academic program development.  The Student Success Coordinator reports to the Director of TRIO Educational Talent Search and assists with providing support in the implementation of the mission and goals of the program. The position assists with developing short- and long-term advising strategies, evaluates outcomes, and ensures program goals and objectives are met. This position requires a varied work schedule that includes evenings and weekends and requires considerable in- and out-of-state travel. 

This position is funded by a renewable Department of Education grant. Continued funding is dependent on successfully meeting grant objectives and annual renewal of grant funding.

Primary Duties

Case management:

  • Manage programmatic daily operations for middle school students.
  • Manage a caseload of 180 to 250 students.  Coordinate motivational and informative workshops for program participants including academic advising, college and career advising, admission and financial aid, social, cultural workshops, and college campus visits.
  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing all grant objectives/goals, academic/college access workshops and curriculum, student events and trips to include, direct oversite of program calendar and event planning.
  • In collaboration with the Director, monitor grant activities to ensure compliance with federal program regulations and guidelines.
  • Coordinate annual recruitment of new participants.
  • Work closely with ETS staff to determine ETS recruitment targets and develop strategies to meet goal.

Supervision:

  • Supervise tutors in the school districts at Pueblo South and Pueblo East and Hope Online Learning Academy.

Budget support:

  • Support for approval authority for operational transactions, to include, but not limited to: p-card transactions, DV’s, requisitions, travel authorization and reimbursements.
  • Serve as the Account Manager for Talent Search accounts.
  • Annually negotiate with target school administration on free ETS office space within schools.
  • Assist with development of potential program partnerships.
  • Assist in providing oversight of contract procurement/renewal processes such as for the Signal vine app, Monberg tutoring grant, and 4 Imprint, etc.

Analyze data :

  • Assist the Director in compiling data and writing reports documenting program outcomes and accomplishments for U.S. Department of Education, the University, and the community.
  • Ensure APR compliance.
  • Assist with data entry and collection for Annual Performance Report (APR.
  • Assist with maintaining program data base to ensure accurate up-to-date data for program.

Ancillary Duties

Participate in professional organizations, campus committees (i.e. – ASPIRE, search and screen committees); attend TRIO and Student Affairs programs and functions as necessary. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Salary Range

$53,000 to $55,000

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel to target schools and transport students in 15-passenger van
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Proficient in using MS Office software and social media
  • Experience working with first generation and low-income students in an educational environment
  • Experience working in a TRIO program
  • Experience working with a budget and completing annual performance reviews (APRs).
  • Experience in a position requiring relationship building and mentoring students
  • Experience in a position or activity that required effective verbal and intercultural  communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Familiarity with CSU Pueblo’s business processes and resource management systems (Kuali, AIS).
  • Enthusiasm to promote CSU Pueblo’s commitment to students
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English
  • Experience in office operations and managing budgets
  • Two or more years of professional experience related to college admissions, advising, and/or financial aid
  • Experience coordinating and planning educational programs and activities for youth or families
  • Experience supporting first generation and low income participants in a student-support program
  • Supervisory experience
