Visiting Assistant Professor in Architectural History
Visiting Assistant Professor in Architectural History
The Hammons School of Architecture (HSA) at Drury University invites applications and nominations for a Visiting Assistant Professor in architectural history and theory. This is a full-time, one semester appointment for spring (January-May) 2027.
HSA seeks talented emerging scholars who advance architectural pedagogy, discourse, and the scholarship of architectural history and theory. In particular, those who investigate issues of formal, theoretical, material, pragmatic and conceptual aspects of architecture, cities, and art, examined in relation to global cultural contexts, from circa 1500 to the present. This position is designed for promising early-career faculty candidates who look to advance their teaching and scholarship and to join a dedicated faculty of mentors and teachers. The successful candidate will receive the same consideration for faculty development funds that tenure-track and tenured faculty receive.
A PhD in architectural history is preferred but those who are ABD are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will teach history lecture courses in the spring with the aim of deepening students’ knowledge of architecture, urbanism, and art, emphasizing the ways in which these studies inform their current and future work in architecture and allied disciplines.
HSA offers a NAAB-accredited, first-professional M.Arch degree in the context of a small private liberal arts university. The school has a historical and ongoing commitment to providing exemplary professional preparation within a broad and interdisciplinary curriculum recognized for fostering critical thinking and skilled stewardship. All HSA students study abroad, participate in professional internships, and attain minors and/or certificates that construct an individualized path through a uniquely interconnected program.
