Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time one-year position of Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor (rank dependent on highest degree earned) in the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics to begin August 15, 2026. The department anticipates a continued vacancy due to sabbatical leaves, and the successful candidate may be considered for continuation for a second year, contingent upon favorable review and the continuing needs of the College.
Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States. Gustavus will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.

Position Overview
- Teach 7 course sections over the academic year. Typically, 3 in the Fall and 4 in the Spring. Two courses in the Fall will be repeated in the Spring. Primary teaching responsibilities will include 100-level computer science courses (that are a follow-up to Computer Science I) taught using Python, Java, and SQL. Additional responsibilities include teaching courses in systems and software engineering.

Prerequisites
What We're Looking For
- MS in Computer Science or related field with at least three years of industry experience OR PhD in Computer Science or a related field (ABD)

- Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
- Prior experience teaching undergraduate computer science courses

What We Offer
Based on data from AAUP (American Association of University Professors) and CUPA (College and University Professional Association), we offer a competitive starting salary range of $68,000 to $75,000 for a 9-month academic year. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience, training, certifications/licensure, market factors, departmental budgets, and responsibility.
