Job Description:

The Education Department invites applications for a full-time, 1-year temporary Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor in Special Education. The successful candidate will be required to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level related to moderate and severe special education; supervise field placements, collaborate with local districts and agencies serving culturally and economically diverse students; and engage in service to the university and profession are required.

Supervision Received: Department Chair of Education

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in moderate and severe special education both on campus and online (24 semester hours of credit of instruction per school year), and preparation for classroom instruction.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate interdisciplinary courses in special education with a focus on students with moderate and severe disabilities.
  • Supervising field and clinical experiences.
  • Assisting undergraduate and graduate students, including academic advising.
  • Participate in curriculum review and development including activities related to accreditation by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Association for Advancing Quality in Education Preparation (AAQEP).
  • Attend university functions, including commencement; and faculty, committee, unit, and departmental meetings.
  • Participate in scheduled orientation and registration programs.
  • Utilization of technology in teaching, including the university's campus-wide web-based assessment management system SSC, Blackboard Ultra.
  • Demonstrated record or potential for successfully teaching courses online.
  • Providing service to the department, university, and profession.
  • Opportunities to teach summer, winter term, and online undergraduate and graduate evening courses.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold an earned Master's degree OR Doctorate in Special Education from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of successful teaching experience or service delivery with students with moderate and severe disabilities.
  • Ability to participate in scholarly work.
  • Ability to integrate appropriate technology in teaching.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
  • Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Demonstrated record or potential for successfully teaching university level courses in multiple modalities.

Additional Information:

This is a Full-time, temporary, 9 month benefited position, beginning September 1, 2026.

Salary commensurate with experience in accordance with Appendix O of the MSCA contract. A reasonable starting salary range to expect for a new faculty member appointed at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor can range from $65,000-75,000. There are opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate courses.
