The Spadoni College of Education and Social Sciences at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the position of Visiting Lecturer of Political Science in the Department of Political Science beginning in August, 2026. This is a 9-month position, and may be considered for renewal for an additional term based on institutional needs.
Visiting Lecturers carry a 5-5 teaching load. We seek to hire a candidate with strong teaching credentials to teach our introductory course in American Government. The ability to teach our department’s introductory statistics course is also desirable. The candidate will also be able to teach courses in his or her subfield of American politics and/or political theory. The ideal candidate’s subfield will complement existing strengths in our department. Possible subfields include American bureaucracy, state politics, local government, American political development, African-American political thought, or contemporary political theory.
The chosen candidate is required to have a Ph.D. in political science or a related discipline by the time of appointment. Job Duties
- Communicating to students after reviewing written exams and papers, evaluating artistic presentations, supervising independent study projects, supervising or teaching clinical internships or programs.
- Tracking and reporting absences during the designated period as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
- Calculating and assigning grades (midterm and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University Catalog. Tracking and reporting absences during the designated period as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
- Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
