The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is seeking qualified applications for a 4-H Extension Agent based out of Boligee, AL in Greene County. Applicants must be self-directed and able to thrive in a flexible work environment.

Who we’re looking for: We are seeking a servant leader that has a passion for working with youth in Greene County! As a 4-H Extension Agent, this position provides the opportunity to do something new every day. Must be willing to work as part of team and serve a diverse population. Essential Functions:

  • Serving under the supervision of the County Extension Director, the primary role is to provide programmatic leadership and program delivery to build life skills in Alabama youth.
  • Develops leadership and engagement skills to grow and sustain the county 4-H program in five areas of excellence.
  • Diversifies program delivery by learning new programs, resources, and skills in key 4-H program subject areas.
  • Stays current on demographic and socioeconomic changes to include diverse voices in program planning.
  • Outdoor work may be required, including work with animals, water, equipment, plants, and wildlife.

Program Leadership:

  • Provides leadership, direction, organization, and implementation of a broad-based county 4-H program.
  • Provides experiential learning opportunities for youth to improve knowledge, develop leadership skills, and prepare for a positive role in society.
  • Develops an annual county 4-H strategic plan and program plan-of-work.
  • Provides leadership for county 4-H Youth Council and works with County Extension Director for the 4-H Adult Advisory Committee.
  • Meets regularly with colleagues to share needs assessment results and coordinate programs.
  • Provides leadership for events, including required annual assignments to statewide events and summer camp.

Program Management and Marketing:

  • Serves as the leading program resource on the County 4-H Team.
  • Responsible for providing expertise and leadership regarding policies and directions of the county 4-H program.
  • Promotes and markets Alabama 4-H programs through all media sources.
  • Maintains effective communication and develops networks with volunteers, schools, agencies, and organizations.
  • Assures compliance with civil rights policies and Auburn University Risk Management requirements.
  • Responsible for data collection, evaluation summaries, and success stories.
  • Develops a communication plan to reach 4-H members using traditional and social media.

Volunteer and Resource Management:

  • Provides leadership for 4-H volunteer development, including recruitment, orientation, and training.
  • Identifies, secures, and manages fiscal resources to support programs.
  • Participates in grant-funded projects and builds capacity of volunteers through training.

This position may require hours outside of the typical 7:45am-4:45pm, including potential night and weekend opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Level 1: Bachelor’s degree and 0 years of experience.
  • Level 2: Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience or Master’s degree and 2 years.
  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree and 8 years or Master’s degree and 6 years.
  • Level 4: Bachelor’s degree and 12 years or Master’s degree and 10 years.
  • Focus of Education: Discipline related to extension programming.
  • Focus of Experience: Experience implementing, managing, or delivering educational programs.
  • Minimum Skills: Knowledge of adult and youth programming, communication skills, and ability to work with diverse audiences.
